Abdoulaye Meite may have played his last game for Bolton after falling out with manager Gary Megson.
Meite was at fault for both of Manchester United's goals in the 2-0 defeat on Wednesday and Megson is understood to have laid into the Ivory Coast international at half time.
Since Gary Cahill's arrival in January, Meite had been left sitting on the substitutes bench since returning from the African Cup of Nations and Wednesday's game was his first start since the beginning of January.
Reports claim Meite was feigning injury during the break at Old Trafford, but after medical checks appeared to be fine, prompting an argument with the Wanderers boss.
Nicky Hunt replaced the Ivorian for the second half in what was a much improved performance, despite Bolton still crashing to the 2-0 defeat.
Meite joined Bolton from Marseille in summer 2006 and was almost an ever present in his debut season, but a dip in form and now a difference of opinion may result in him training with the reserves for the rest of the season.
