MEGSON STILL TARGETING SURVIVAL - Saturday 22nd March 2008

Bolton manager Gary Megson still believes his side can avoid relegation despite being held to a 0-0 draw by Manchester City.

The Trotters have now failed to score in their last four Premier League games and have not managed a win in the last six.

A victory over City would have moved them out of the bottom three, but they lie just one point behind Birmingham, but then four points adrift of 16th placed Sunderland.

Megson needs his side to pick up points as soon as possible, but with title chasing Arsenal next on the horizon, things are starting to look bleak for Wanderers.

Despite the goalless draw against City, Megson believes his side gave everything they had.

"We certainly couldn't try any harder. We couldn't have put any more effort in," Megson told Sky Sports.

"We could have passed the ball a bit better.

"We've had a lot of efforts on City's goal. There are a lot of things to be positive about.

"Where we are this season it's about the points, so from that point of view it's disappointing.

"We tend to be on top in a game and not take it. Whilst you've not scored you get a breakaway against us and it's happened a few times today.

"In terms of territorial advantage we were way up on the opposition."

When asked if his side should have taken advantage and won the game, Megson believed his side had missed a big chance to get a win on board.

"It's two points lost because of the way the game went, but we've gained a point on Birmingham and Fulham," he said.

"What we've got to try and do is finish outside the bottom three. We've got to come up with one or two results that are a surprise to people."
