Bolton defender Gary Cahill claims he joined the club to play first team football and is excited about the prospect of facing Atletico Madrid.
This comes after criticism of the player from Birmingham City chairman David Gold who claims to have been messed around by Cahill prior to him signing for the Trotters.
Gold believes the Blues had all but completed a deal for the 22-year-old a week before the transfer deadline and was disappointed when he signed a deal at the Reebok Stadium.
"I would have put a substantial bet on the fact the Gary Cahill deal would have been done and dusted seven days before the window closed," Gold told Sky Sports.
"I know we came up with the best package for this player, better than that of Bolton.
"Yet things went on and on and on and, at the last minute, Cahill went to Bolton. I could use the word 'selfish' after he did that to us.
"All he was concerned about was himself and didn't give us a fair opportunity to find someone else by saying 'this isn't a done deal'.
"He didn't give us a chance to do anything else before the window closed. In the end he didn't show us any respect and we were messed about. I was very disappointed."
Meanwhile, Cahill has reacted to the comments by the Birmingham chairman and admits to enjoying his football following a bright start to his Bolton career.
"I came here to play in big games and play first team football and I am really looking forward to tonight (Atletico Madrid)," Cahill told the club's official website.
"It will be exciting and if we can produce what we produced against Portsmouth, and for that matter, since I have been here, I think that it will be a good game.
"I am really enjoying it here, I have been made to feel really welcome by the lads and the support and backing from the fans has helped, like it helps all the players.
"We have no fear facing Atletico. Every game that you play, you want to win and tonight is no exception. They will give us a good game, they are a quality side and we have to match that."
