ATLETICO MADRID v BOLTON WANDERERS - PREVIEW - Thursday 21st February 2008
Bolton hold a one goal advantage as they travel to the Spanish capital in hope of knocking Atletico Madrid out of the UEFA Cup.
El-Hadji Diouf's strike at the Reebok last Thursday gave Wanderers a fully deserved victory over Atletico, putting an end to a brave goalkeeping display from Christian Abbiati.
Gary Megson will be hoping his side can produce a similar performance and progress to the last 16 of the competition, but it is unknown what side he will put out for the 2nd leg.
Megson is guaranteed to have one eye on Sunday's Premier League trip to Blackburn and may opt to leave some of his stars on the bench as survival in the league takes priority.
Jussi Jaaskelainen, who made one world class save last time out is expected to keep his place in goal, with Ali Al-Habsi set to continue as a substitute despite impressing against Bayern Munich earlier in the competition.
With Gretar Steinsson ineligible, Nicky Hunt is set to continue at right-back, with Ricardo Gardner and Jlloyd Samuel pushing for the starting place at left-back.
Gary Cahill and Andy O'Brien have put together an impressive defensive partnership in the last couple of games, but with Abdoulaye Meite back from the African Cup of Nations, the Ivory Coast international will be looking to force his way back into Megson's plans.
Ivan Campo, formerly of Real Madrid, returns to the city for the first time since leaving in 2002 and is expected to start in a holding roll, with Kevin Nolan and Danny Guthrie infront of him in a three-man midfield.
The impressive Matt Taylor will be hoping to break his goalscoring duck for the Trotters should he start, with Kevin Davies spearheading the Wanderers attack with possible support from Stelios Giannakopoulos who came on as a substitute in the first leg.
Unlike Bolton, Atletico go into the tie after a league game at the weekend, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Athletic Bilbao, in which there were more disciplinary problems, continuing from the UEFA Cup defeat at the Reebok.
After his dismissal at the Reebok last week, Sergio Aguero has been handed a two-match ban by UEFA after apparantly spitting in the direction of the linesman.
The FIFA Young Player of the Year may be replaced by Mista, with Diego Forlan and Jose Antonio Reyes in support.
Simao may start on the bench after picking up an injury in the first leg so he could be replaced by former Liverpool playmaker Luis Garcia who is returning from a European ban.
With Bolton holding a one goal advantage, they will be looking to score an all important away goal which would give them a huge opportunity to reach the last 16 for the first time in their history.
