DIOUF HOLDS TALKS - Monday 13th August 2007
El-Hadji Diouf has held talks with Bolton manager Sammy Lee about his future at the club. Diouf was a substitute in Saturday's defeat to Newcastle and is believed to have been frustrated at the axe, with Ricardo Vaz Te starting on the left flank. With Vaz Te picking up an injury in the first-half, Diouf came on for the second half and caused the visitors a few problems. Diouf had hinted that his future may have been away from the Reebok if he wasn't a first-team regular. "I want to talk with the chairman and the manager because I want everything to be clear in my head," explained Diouf. "The best thing is for him to show me he has confidence. If he tells me he has confidence, I do well. "If I don't see that, I don't think I can stay here. They decided I wasn't playing, though, and that was that." In the meantime, Lee has responded to the comments made by the Senegal international, claiming Diouf must fight for his place in the side. "Diouf is always talking to me and I am pleased he is disappointed," said the Bolton manager. "We felt it was the right starting line-up. Unfortunately Ricardo Vaz Te was injured and had to come off. "Everyone then saw Diouf's quality and I can understand his frustration. "But I want competition for places. I do not want people to feel they are automatic choices. "It is important people are always looking over their shoulders and being spurred on by other players." With the injury to Vaz Te, Diouf could start against Fulham on Wednesday as they look to get their first points of the season. |
