BOSS UNHAPPY WITH DECISION - Wednesday 31st October 2007
Gary Megson was unhappy with referee Howard Webb after Bolton were knocked out of the Carling Cup. Manchester City ran out 1-0 winners at the Reebok Stadium after Elano scored from the penalty spot with 5 minutes to go. Lubomir Michalik was adjudged to have handled in the penalty area, and with help from his assistant referee Howard Webb awarded the spot kick. The controversial penalty settled a largely uneventful encounter which saw Sven Goran Eriksson's side into the last 8 of the competition. Megson doesn't believe the referee got the decision correct and isn't sure if Webb thinks the same. "You have got to be 100 per cent certain if you are going to give a penalty at that stage of the game. I cannot see how he could even be 50 per cent sure," Megson said. "It was not clear-cut. It was a bit of a nonsensical decision in such an important game. "The lad cannot get out of the way even if he tried and it has obviously cost us dearly. But the players deserve great credit for keeping going." |
