Bolton Wanderers have reached the Peace Cup final after a 2-1 victory over Spanish side Racing Santander. A second half brace from Nicolas Anelka brought the Whites from behind to secure the three points which sees them finish top of Group A. Racing were the better side in the first half, dominating both possession and chances, and Bolton were lucky only to go in a goal down at the break. Bolton had the first chance of the game when James Sinclair's strike from the edge of the area was straight at goalkeeper Tono after Racing had failed to clear a corner. However, Racing took the lead on 26 minutes, when Albendea's strike beat Ian Walker in the Bolton goal. Having seen his side very much outclassed in the first half, Sammy Lee sent on Ivan Campo, Kevin Nolan and Ricardo Vaz Te to liven up the Bolton attack and the changes paid off before the hour. Ricardo Vaz Te set off on a mazy run down the left flank, advancing into the area and cutting the ball back for Anelka to tap home at the second attempt. Just 7 minutes later, the Lancashire outfit were infront. James Sinclair beat a couple of defenders down the right before putting in a relatively poor cross which was cleared as far as Anelka who volleyed into the top corner with aplomb, putting the Trotters top of the group. |
