GARY MEGSON swooped to make his first signing of the summer today when England under 21 midfielder Fabrice Muamba joined Bolton Wanderers from Birmingham City in a deal worth over £5 million.

The former Arsenal midfielder agreed a four-year deal on Monday afternoon.

Good signing IMO, although 5mill maybe a little much. Cant say ive seen too much of him so ill make my mind up on that after he's played a few games for us.

I see him as the long term replacement for Campo.

Not seen too much of him but he seems like a good player, although Birmingham fans are a little split on him. Some think he's got the potential to make it and others think he's a donkey and are happy they've got so much money for him.

If he's a donkey then he'll fit right into Campo's boots Cheesy

I think europe might be a bit too far next season, a nice mid-table finish will do for me. Megson identified the problem last season of having no pace in the team and with muamba should add to that as Megson see's him as a box-to-box like player. Agree that his positive attitude is great and the way he has made a career for himself after his childhood is amazing.

Thats tells you alot about him IMO

I'd be happy doing what West Ham did last year. They were in mid-table last year but it's better than being stuck at the bottom.

We have to get points from the first few games, fail to do so and I think we'll be struggling again.

well Manny i hope we get most points from the start ov season so we ave a good chance lets also hope he gives muamba a chance aswell i don't want him to be a bench warmer! like Vaz Te im a big fan of him skillfull, young, he's got the pace just Megson does not play him often enough shame really coz he could be the next Ronaldo! lol

I think the season coming is Vaz te's last chance, he was bloody awful in the few games he played last season. He might have skill and pace but the fact is he struggles to stand up and doesnt seem to be able to pass or shoot, so unless he has a special season next season, given the chance that is, then i cant see him being here much longer.

And i dont think Megson is stupid enough to spend 5mill on a player who he see's as a benchwarmer, expect to see muamba in the team from the start of the season, most likely replacing campo.

Muamba will take Campo's place for sure. Hopefully a good signing that will improve in time, just like Cahill. Making the spine of the team solely British could be a big boost.

To be fair to Vaz Te he had a brilliant pre-season and then got injured on the opening day. After having a serious knee injury myself I know how hard it is to fight back from it, meaning the season was pretty much a write off for him.

Agree though, it's do or die time for him and to be honest, I can't see him getting too much time in the team, although with seven subs next season, he may be on the bench more often than not.

the way i see it, any player who comes out of Arsenals academy is decent. so not a bad signing even if it seems slightly over priced. then again so did cahill and now that seems like a bargain. basically i would say you have to pay more for English talent.
