Bolton Wanderers has announced that Jussi Jaaskelainen's testimonial on Saturday 8 August, 2009 will be played against Hibernian.

Managed by former Wanderers striker and Finnish compatriot Mixu Paatelainen, Hibernian will travel down to the Reebok Stadium from Edinburgh during the next pre-season to celebrate Jaaskelainen's 12 years of service to the football club.

Hibernian have won the Scottish top-flight title on four occasions since their formation in 1875 and were the first British club to participate in European competition back in the 1955/56 campaign.

Proceeds raised from the testimonial will be donated to local children's charities with more details, along with ticket information, to be announced in due course.

Speaking exclusively to the official website about the tribute game, Jaaskelainen said: "There are three more important fixtures remaining this season which the team and I are fully focused on achieving as many points from as possible.

"However, my testimonial is a day for the supporters and I am looking forward to the occasion immensely. I am extremely proud of what I have achieved at Bolton Wanderers and it has been tremendous to represent this club for as long as I have done.

"It is great that my fellow countryman Mixu Paatelainen will be bringing his team to Bolton and it will be a good curtain raiser for the new season."

Coincidently, Jaaskelainen made his competitive first team debut for Bolton Wanderers exactly 11 years earlier than the date his testimonial will be played, back on Saturday 8 August, 1998 in a 2-2 draw away at Crystal Palace.

The 34-year-old has since gone on to make a total of 425 appearances for the club since he joined from Finnish outfit VPS Vaasa in November 1997.

Good for him! People have questioned him over the years but you can't knock the job he has done for us.

I'm at a wedding that day!  Angry Any chance of rearranging BWFC?!  Wink

So much for an off season wedding eh!

Won't be anywhere near Bolton on that day. Will be the first home game I've missed in 8 years! I probably deserve a game off!

Anyway, i'll be there. Jussi has been an amazing goalkeeper for this club and i'm glad he's getting the recognition he deserves.

Well at least we know we have a very good replacement in Ali. Aslong as Fred Barber is here then at least thats one positioning department we will always have quality. A shame about the other positions!

I am delighted to hear this news. Started watching Bolton in 1997/98 as a very impressonable 4 or 5 year old who wanted to play in goal - and to me he has been a hero ever since.

I must have his autograph at least 20 times from away games.

I will definitely be at this game, as long as I am not on holiday, fingers crossed.

WELL DONE TO THE FLYING FINN!

Think the recent article with him playing down his role in the wigan game to just doing his job says everything about the guy. There simply aren't enough compliments to give the guy but he knows how much the fans love him and i'm glad of that. Love his shouting at the defenders from crosses and stuff especially when its often his fault. People don't argue with the big guy though. Great servant and terrific professional. Didn't turn his back on the club when he probably could have as given and schwarzer have done in recent times.

Even the laughing in disbelief at some of his AWFUL kicks over the years especially the first few seasons back in the prem god they were crap at times. But no ones perfect. He's been close enough for me though

I think the guy overall is a genius, you have nailed it Djorkaeff - you cannot pay enough compliments.

Loveable - down to earth guy, who is a fantastic goalkeeper and also gives us a life because of his great passion he shows towards his team and his collegues.

I don't know what to expect. Seeing as it will only be a week before the new season starts, there probably won't be any friendlies between the testimonial and the first game of the season.

I don't think any old players will be making a one off return unfortunately. Maybe we'll have to wait for Gardner's turn.

I'd like to think some of the Scandanavians might have a go!

Bergsson, Frandsen, Hansen just to name a few and Fred Barber to come on in goal for the last 10mins Wink
