Not what I had in mind, but with Samuel being inconsistent then this could prove to be a good signing for only £1m.
However he has to sign the other targets that are vitally important

I think Robinson would be a good signing and add competition to left back area. He has been a good performer for West Brom this year and a snip at £1 mill.

Totally agree with you Monk, just hope he is not blowing a big amount of the funds (dont know how much he has) on a LB when there are areas like CB & FC that need to be dealt with first.

I discovered a lovely rumour nestling amongst the chat pages on BBC`s 606!
It suggested that Bolton Wanders were on the verge of signing Aaron Mclean?
As if!
It also suggested that a fee, in the region of £1.5 million had been agreed?
As if!
It also suggested that the deal was set to be sealed in the next few days?
As if!
Darragh MacAnthony has already stated that nothing short of £5 million would even give him cause to consider a deal.
We`ll put this one down as unmitigated rubbish shall we?( http://www.peterborough.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=155661) Has scored quite a few goals in league 1, 18 i think. if he is quoted at £5 mil i'd stay away!

Got a good record at Peterborough but it's always a gamble when you look down the leagues. Beckford has put in a transfer request today but Everton are the favourites for him.

If it was £1.5mill i wouldnt mind having McLean but at £5mill there's no chance of that happening.
At £1mill Robinson wouldnt be a bad signing i suppose but i dont think we actually need him and im sure that money could be spent better elsewhere.

I know its only early guys but i was just wondering how many players you think we actually need and how many we are going to actually bring in? I know its a pretty hard question but still...

We need about half a dozen but that's after people go out, if any.

Too true Manny. All the loan players have gone back now, that makes the squad 3 short already. We need to bring in plenty quality players, Fulham did it last summer why cant we.

The lure of London is much bigger than Bolton. Fulham didn't bring anyone in that really made people stand up and take notice really.

http://www.tribalfootball.com/bolton-launching-bid-portsmouth-defender-distin-247056Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson is launching a £3 million bid for Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin.
The Daily Mail says Pompey’s cash problems will ensure a string of departures this summer, and Bolton are the head of the queue for the 31-year-old former Manchester City centre-back.
Distin admitted: "A lot of things can happen in the coming months. We don’t know what is going to happen.
"All I want to do is go away on holiday, relax and refresh my mind."If he can recapture some of the form that he showed under Harry Rednapp then he would be a good buy in my opinion;hes quite quick aswell for a center back!

He's been pretty dodgy alongside an ageing campbell this year but with a solid partner like cahill he could get back to the form he had a couple of seasons ago being just 31. Think he would be a good buy and not too expensive leaving some money for players in other positions and could mean one of AOB and Shittu could be on their way.

Is the interest in Distin due to the fact he may fear of losing Cahill and not to partner alongside??
If that's the case why not try to find a second CB too, as O Brien seems to have had a bad season and we should get a decent sum for Gary if he goes (although I pray not!!)
Shittu has not been at all good and Puygrenier has barely featured.
Tal Ben doesn't seem to be a popular option, neither does Richard Dunne?
Any ideas??

Id keep shittu for back up. He has done well when he has come in the side so Id keep him as a back up defender but get rid of AOB if we do get distin

Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers are two teams vying for the signature of Villarreal’s stylish midfielder Matias Fernandez.
Fernandez seems likely to leave El Madrigal this summer and a move to England appeals to the 23-year-old.
Buenos Aires born Fernandez is a naturalized Chilean and has been targeted by the club, Blackburn, that his compatriot Carlos Villanueva played for this season.
Bolton are another offer to consider, with his agent expecting to get the ball rolling regarding Fernandez's future movements once the former Colo Colo star has played in a World Cup qualifier for Chile on June 10.
“After the game against Bolivia, Matias will go on holiday and we have until August 31 to look at the situation,” said Alejandro Santiesteban.
“There is an offer from Bolton Wanderers and a possibility from Blackburn where Villanueva was.”http://www.setanta.com//uk/Articles/Football/2009/05/27/Premier-League-Fernandez-agent-on-interest/gnid-54706/

Distin wouldn't be the worst signing in the world, but like Jamster said, he's looked dodgy this season. For £3m I think we could go for somebody a bit younger.
I'd have Ben Haim, but again, he'd need to refind his form of Bolton days. Since leaving he's looked like a shadow of the player he was here. Dunne is just a no go!

I've seen that fernandez a couple of times this season and i'd be very pleased if we got him. Very good attacking midfielder...not sure why only us and blackburn seem to want him...think a team in a european competition will end up getting him but heres to hoping. Wonder if we'll go back in for vukevic...he's also pretty good from what little i've seen.
On the CB front i'd have ben haim back...he needs a commanding partner i always thought...bruno/faye/jaidi when here and cahill is pretty dominant in the air so could complement him well. Not sure how much city would be looking to get for him though.

Distin would be a pretty good signing IMO if he can recapture the form he had in his City days aswell as his early Pompey days. As for Ben Haim, every team he's played for since leaving Bolton dont seem to have rated him and at Sunderland, their fans seem delighted to be getting rid of him so i think the chances of him recapturing his Bolton form is unlikely so for that reason i think id steer clear.
Fernandez sounds like the creative player we need and would definatly be an exciting signing although i dont know a great deal about him so cant say whether or not he'd do well in this country.

I missed this the first time I read the Matias Fernandez posted by Jam (well done Jam, first with the news again, keep it up!).
Did anyone else?
"There is an offer from Bolton Wanderers"!!!
Maybe we've moved on from Veloso?

I would take Distin but there are other players I would pick ahead of him.
As for this guy, Fernandez - he sounds like he has quality but it could be a risk if he cannot play in the PL. Very different league and some players just cannot hack it, I would definitely go for Tuncay.
Tuncay is very creative, has a great commitment and work rate and has a fair bit of PL expericence now and also he should be on the cheap.

Also I think you have read that wrong! I interpreted it as we are interested and it is just the way it has been worded but then again I may be wrong.
I doubt we would be lining this guy up instead of Veloso, I'd like to think someone better could fit the bill.

Tuncay is a player i would love to see us sign but i think there'd be a few clubs interested in him. Megson has won the race in the past though so maybe he could do it again if there is a chance we could bring him here, at least then we know we're signing a creative player who can handle this division. And i dont think it shows us moving on from Veloso yet either, he's a different sort of player to Fernandez or even Tuncay so there in theory we'd still be after both, if we are still interested in Veloso at all that is, maybe our shire horse still isnt ready for that tiara

I would have a Davenport, Tuncay, Veloso, Campbell & Carroll!
And then any players on loan or for free to have as backup and then that would be me done and ready for the season.
I am easily pleased!
