Lyon star Sidney Govou refusing to sign new deal

BOLTON aim to make a shock move for unsettled Lyon star Sidney Govou.

The striker, 29, is out of contract at the end of next season and is refusing to sign a new deal with the French champions.

He has spent the last 12 seasons with Lyon and wants to try his luck in the Premier League, with Bolton leading the chase.

Govou said: "My time is up. I will not be signing again at Lyon."

Attacking right winger - just what we want - and on a free (but with big signing on cost though!)

Only gossip I know but I like the sound of this one!

I just hope theres more in this story than the "Rivaldo on verge of joining trotters" stories a few years back.

He should be a decent signing if we can get him, only 29, he still has a few good years left in him!

It would be a good signing and a positive move by the club. At 29 he's at his peak and we should be able to get a good 3 years out of him.
Though I am not being too optimistic on this and I can see bigger clubs coming into play for him

Think he could be a great signing...similar player to riga...only much better. Winger/striker and scores his fair share of goals. See a more attractive club than ours coming in for him though. Someone in london perhaps but is an ambitious target i like to see us linked with.

I don't know much about him but do know he has a good reputation.

Averaged 1 in 5 for Lyon over the last 10 years and 1 in 3 for France. If we could get him on a free it'd be a great signing, he might be able to score a couple of goals!

Hearts midfielder Laryea Kingston has admitted that it is his dream to play in the Premier League and hopes to resurrect a possible move this summer.

The Ghanaian international attracted interest from a number of clubs in the January transfer window with Bolton, Portsmouth and Schalke all believed to be interested in signing the midfielder before injury struck.

Kingston is back in the Hearts squad for Sunday's clash with title chaser Rangers and is hoping he can reignite interest from English clubs by hitting form in the close season.

"I had three or four offers to go to the Premier League and one in Germany. Those clubs are waiting to see if I am back on the pitch. Every player's dream is to play in the English Premier League because it is the best league in the world," he told the Sunday Herald.

"Before the window opened in January I had a lot of options down south and it was quite disappointing for me and the club management when I picked up an injury immediately after the window opened.

"That happens in football - sometimes you are expecting something and it doesn't happen and vice versa. It didn't happen so I can't say whether I would have left."

i'll be keeping my eye out for him

Repeated speculation. We were linked with him last summer and in January too. He's nothing special IMO and we should be aiming a lot higher.

Might be a little early but with rumours popping up here and there i thought it made sense to just keep them all in one place until we actually sign someone, saves cluttering the board with lots of different threads.

Ill merge the other topics in to here if thats all right?

Like you said, a little early but the speculation is starting to build up and the usual shite is being floated around.

Looks like somebody is trying to drum up interest and has no intentions of signing for us.

Quote
Real Sociedad left-back Xabi Castillo has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Celtic, but also has 'interest from Italy, Bolton and Greece'.

The 23-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is keen to move overseas.

Because he is under 24, a Spanish club would have to pay £2million to secure his services.

"I have interest from Italy, from Bolton in England and Greece," Castillo said in the Daily Mail. "But what I want most of all is a proposal from Celtic.

"I wanted to make some money for Real before I left but, in football, things do not always work out as you like."

One of Veloso and Tom huddlestone. Giovani Dos Santos, Gareth Bale and Fraizer Campbell on loan maybe. Gary O'Neil and David Wheater perhaps. Creative CM and good CB to partner cahill should be top 2 priorities in my eyes.

Hopefully this one can be put to bed now. We don't want a whole summer of "will he, won't he". The papers will give us enough of that with Ronaldo.

Quote
Sporting Lisbon midfielder Miguel Veloso appears to have carried out another of his trademark u-turns by claiming that he is now happy to stay in portugal. The dynamic enforcer has been repeatedly linked with several clubs in the last two years with Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers and Newcastle United all thought to be monitoring his progress.

The 22-year-old had stated in March that he ‘would like to leave’ the Jose Alvalade after receiving death threats in the post and having had bullying abuse daubed on the walls of Sporting’s training ground by fans angry with his foreign club flirtations.

However, despite the mid-season intimidation it now appears the international has changed is mind stating:

"I only think of Sporting. Even in one or two years from now that is not going to change," Veloso told the press in his homeland.

"This was not a good season because we wanted to be champions. We worked for it but we could not meet the goals set at the beginning of the campaign," he concluded.

Bolton Wanderers’ young central defender Gary Cahill, has been linked with a move to Arsenal according to reports in the Sunday Mirror.

The former Aston Villa player has impressed since moving to the Reebok Stadium, and many have tipped him for Fabio Capello’s senior squad having previously featured for Stuart Pearce’s Under 21 squad a couple of years ago.

Wenger is keen to strengthen his defence, and although many expect him to sign a number of experienced players this summer, the Frenchman may surprise a few with a continued investment in youth, starting with the 23 year old.

The newspaper reports a bid of £10 million would certainly be enough to sign Cahill, however an offer closer to £6 million would secure Cahill’s signature.

I do hope that this isnt true as I think hes worth more money than that and i doubt we could get anyone as good as him. Besides we already need one CB lets not make it 2!!

If we sell our best CB for £6m i'll f'king scream!! Any other club would be saying £10m is the baseline and they would like between £10m-£20m for him! I don't mind us being a selling club, as long we get good money for our best players when we let them leave! A solid CB is just as important as a striker who can score loads of goals. So if Anelka was worth £15m, Cahill is worth at least that IMO.

I say, if Arsenal want him, make them bloody PAY for him!

First of all I think it is a non story.

Arsenal does need a commanding centre back - but the person also needs to be a leader - Tony Adams or John Terryish - Cahill is not the 'bossing' centre back that Arsenal need.

Next, The Daily (Sunday) Mirror has a very poor recent record of breaking accurate transfer news - if the story had been in say the Mail or even the Sun I might have shown interest - but the Mirror - I really do doubt it.

Lastly Cahill has a £8 million buy out clause in his contract - or at least that is what the very same Mirror reported at the time.  Why then would Arsenal pay £10 million when they apparently could get him for £2 million cheaper?

I'm not saying Cahill won't go - he will sooner or later - I just can't see it being to Arsenal now.

Unless he actually has a buy out clause we'd never sell him for anything under double figures. We paid 5-6 mill for him asif we'd sell him for 6 when hes a much better and proven player now.

12+ i reckon we'd sell and if we did we better have two replacements lined up as we already need 1 CB.

If an offer like that came in I think we'd accept it, with some add ons thrown in. £6m is laughable when we paid £5m+ for him. I think it's a column filler.
