I am  currently studying Sports Development as a 3rd year student at the University of Northampton and am conducting data collection concerning the decline of hooliganism in football stadia as to whether fans believe the decline can be attributed to the increased presence of females. Please can you answer honestly.

I have only ever seen violence at the Reebok twice (although I accept it must have happend more than that).

1) A Pompey fan getting his head kicked in outside the train station and....

2) The madness that followed the Hibs friendly (Jussi's testimonial).

All "hoolies" should be banned for life from Football and by law made to appear on The Jeremy Kyle Show for our entertainment.

The game against Burnley was pretty ugly after the game and when Stoke were at the Bok last season I think it kicked off under the screen if I remember rightly.

Not sure if it was exactly hooliganism though.

Compared to some of the scenes I saw at Burnden, what happened in the last couple of seasons against Stoke and Burnley were nothing.

Still, after there being virtually no trouble for so long, it was still disturbing to see especially when you've got parents just trying to get home with their young kids/elderley relatives.

Football hooliganism is nothing like it was. Walking up Manny Road and seeing people fighting was normal when I was young. Like Paul says the trouble we've had at the Reebok doesn't really compare to the stuff that went on at Burnden.

Hooliganism still goes on but it's not like it used to be.

CCTV everywhere, long banning orders and prison sentences have a lot to do with it.

I blame that on weak men for allowing their women to come the game with them.

Our hooliganism attack is led these days by a bunch of mid-pubescents high on red bull.

No visitor of the Reebok Stadium need expect trouble. Just how it should be!

Yeah you're right Treacle I don't think much of our hooligan fans. I'd be able to take them on single handedly. I'd even bring a dozen suitcases with me to help dispose of them.

Agreed gloria, however I think the behaviour these days is more organised and low key. Females can be thanked for a lot of this, male dominated behaviour even swearing is toned down as they are in a presence of females and children now. In the 70's and 80's through a load of interviews ive done, its clear women had no involvement in football it was ALL MALE! Surely from this wee can take the fact that mroe females has reduced hooliganism to a certain extent...plus extras such as security, all seater stadiums reccomended by the Taylor report and the modernization of facilities such as toilets, hospitality etc.

Please comment!

And please fill i my survey ...it only takes a 30 seconds

I agree. Better toilet facilities have helped reduce football hooliganism.

The women's toilets at the Reebok are generally a mess. I always preferred the mens.

the modernization of football stadiums has encouraged females to go now. Im not saying by having nicer toilets there isnt violence im suggesting the feminization of the ground has aided the decline as more women=less violence as men tend to relax more and behave better around women

I would, but it's mostly about the 70's & 80's and I didn't attend a Football match until 1998!

The reasons I've listed in a previous post, cctv, banning orders and prison, are the main reasons hooliganism has changed. It isn't because more women go the game as you seem desperate to prove. Maybe more women come now because it isn't as violent around stadiums as it used to be. But that isn't down to women being there.

Do you attend football matches? If so who do you watch?

There have been a few isolated spats at the UEFA aways.

If I'm honest the only thing I've ever experienced on a personal level (apart from some North African twat threatening me with a tyre iron after the Marseilles match) was post match at Monchengladbach in a pre season a few years back - That was pretty much European stylee hooliganism in so far they were very charming about the whole affair and even had the common decency to approach the Bolton fans pre match to see if the Bolton fans were 'up for it'. I had passed out drunk by that stage, but apparently we mullered them.

I can't recall seeing any women travelling to Germany on that trip, so you may have a point.

I've seen a video of that if it's the same fight you're on about. A few of them try and have a go at some Bolton outside a pub. Bolton respond by hitting them with tables and chairs. The Germans end up legging it and leave one of their mates unconcious on the floor. Same fight?

I heard it was Natasha and DP using tables and chairs btw.

More than likely. I know Bolton fans were heavily out numbered and ran them out of their own town centre. I had literally just woken up out of a drunken coma at the hotel and walked into the back end of it.

It was always going to be a good omen when the best bar in town was called Boltons (or was it Boltens?) Grin
