I'd just noticed he isn't on the list.

Looks like we won't see him play in a Bolton shirt again.

And tbh I'd rather Robbie Blake didn't get a place in the squad instead.

It's a toss up between an average player who is never fit and an over the hill player who is never needed. No preference either way.

One is a Bolton legend the other isn't.

That was my thinking anyway.

Robbie Blake is funny though apparently.

I'd rather decisions like who we have in our squad were based on football factors rather than sentimental ones, Dave.

Anyway, it could be that Gardner's not likely to be fit again before the end of May, we've not had an injury update for months.

I'd rather they were based on football factors as well tbh.

But Blake isn't kept on for football reasons.

I'm guessing Ricky hasn't been picked before Blake is because, though Blake is in the depature lounge of his footballing career, he isn't injured after nearly every game.

Shame though, Bibi has been a cracking player in his time here, shame it's ended in him pretty much being injured.

I tend to agree about Blake. It's probably moot anyway, I don't think either of them will kick a ball in the PL this season, even if they had both been in the squad.

Certainly Ricky can't cut it in central midfield or wide left at this level any more, and we have Ricketts and Alonso who do a better job at left back.

Off topic, but Marc Iles has just tweeted that Steinsson is out for the Norwich game, another chance for young Joe Riley I hope.

If playing Riley means Ricketts not going back to right back and Robbo at left back then for the love of god coyle play Riley!

Riley has to play if Gretar is out. He's impressed me every game he's played.

Forget Robbie Blake I'm surprised a player who hasn't played a first team game in 2 and a half years in Sean Davis has been picked ahead of Gardner.

No real suprises. Gardner has been a great servant to us, but I think it's time to say good bye.

He won't move Ricketts it will be either Riley with Mears on the bench or Visa Versa depending on what Mears has been showing in training. But it would be Riley for me. I hope to good we don't go Boyata at RB.

Must admit that I didn't notice that Ricky wasn't named.  It must be that he isn't expected fit enough to play before the end of the season.

Think he needs his testimonial sorting soonish.

Robbie Blake should not have been given a contract in the first place - Coyle has made a lot of bad decisions this season but thats the worst. Money in the back pocket to his mate

Holden and Chunky - still probably not see them until next season

Critical get. So he starts training in three weeks - I suppose you believe he will be straight back in the team?

Why would you suppose that? That would be a ridiculous belief.

I would imagine if his recovery goes to schedule he will be available for first team selection around the end of March.

Largehat - It sounds like you think Chung Yung Lee will be back in training on Feb 25th and will be available to play in the Man City away game on March 3rd? I think you are in for a shock.

OK Malc, I'll tell my Korean Posse to cancel the coach booking, and to hang fire on slaughtering the celebratory Yak.

According to the Daily Mirror tomorrow, we are going to (attempt?) offload some of the players on loan/permanently to the lower leagues:

Note at the bottom of the article that Sammy Lee is to join us (finally) after weeks of negotiations.

Coyle has explained the reason for leaving Gardner out of the squad. Thanks for the good times, Ricardo, but it's time to go.

Quote
"The doctor and medical staff don't think he'll be able to play again before the end of the season," Coyle told The Bolton News. "Those are his circumstances, so that's what we had to do.

"He has a knee injury and it is a real shame for him. But the thing about it is that he'll be able to come back and have a career. The decision was made and Ricardo had a big part in that.

"We could have patched it up and he could probably have got away with a month here and there, but then he would be back to square one.

"It was important for him to get it done properly and make sure he still had a footballing career."
