Change of formation, 4-5-1 suits the players we have at the moment, a settled side has halped aswell. We are not getting players sent off every week now which helps players settle in their roles.

I also think with Ricketts at left back and Steinsson at right back has tightened up the back 4, with no Cahill either which is a bonus.

Yah I agree, fair play to Owen for changing the system.I never thought it was a good idea to sack him because I think he is really just still learning about the Premier.Deep down he is a good manager.

Plus NRC as captain, Bogdan in goal, SKD and Klasnic on the bench.

For me it is 3 things;

- change of formation has made us more solid and harder to play through
- Ngog settling into the team- he has started to hold the ball up and link play really well
- NRC- he really is the difference at the moment. Arsenal game was a perfect example of this. 1st half we got battered and he was none existent and 2nd half he played really well and we were in game much more.

There are a couple of other things eg- we've got a left back on the pitch now but I think the above things are the main catalysts. It is credit to Coyle that we are still in touching distance despite all the injuries.

I agree with NRC being a difference, he is a real leader on the pitch but for me the biggest difference is the formation and emergence of M Davies, with him, Eagles and Petrov we have three footballers who swap positions and offer a fluidity that we never had with a 4 4 2, also with NRC and Muamba both on form the back four have more protection and with Ricketts back we have a leader in the back four.
Slightly controversially without Cahill we don't have a defender thats playing for his big move,
Another thing I've noticed is Coyle has become much more animated and vocal, whereas he looked like a beaten man on the touchline a few weeks ago.

Answer to the question lots of reasons, but confidence a big one

That last post hit the nail on the head. Confidence!

When Tim Howard scored against us at Everton, we could have folded and lost the game 2 or 3-0. Instead, we kept going and got ourselves a good win. Coming from behind to win at a place like Goodison Park will push us on.

We then had a really tough game at Macclesfield and showed character once again to get something out of a game we should have lost, before beating them comfortably in a replay.

Earlier in the season, we'd go a goal down and lose every week. We've looked a lot more solid in recent weeks and I put it down to confidence and the chance in formation.

Dropping Kevin Davies shows nobody has a guaranteed place in the side and the same can be said for Jaaskelainen now he's available again. We have competition for places for the first time this season and it seems to have started bringing better performances out of certain players, leading to better results.

I knew things would pick up as soon as we dropped Paul Robinson. Every other team in the Premier League knew exactly how to beat a Bolton Wanderers team with Robbo at left back...... Attack our left back!!

So basically, Sam Ricketts returning from injury along with the confidence boosts that have come from some good results have given us a good chance of staying up. Not bad considering many people were claiming we'd already be too far adrift at the bottom by the time we played Norwich.

Why the sudden change in form?

The exclusion of Klasnic (lazy), Davies (lazy and generally shíte), Robinson (just shíte) and Jaaskelainen (not that good anymore), the inclusion of N'Gog (not brilliant but can hold up the ball), Ricketts (miles better than Robinson) and Bogdan (surprisingly good), the reversion to 4-5-1 which makes us far more difficult to play against, and less of that bollocks hoofball.

Thanks for reading,

Gloria.

Davies (lazy)

I agree with most of what you posted but he isn't lazy.

In esscence the turnaround started when Coyle changed the Captaincy, firstly Cahill then NRC both strong personalities, but more importantly a player who can dictate the game, I have never been able to understand how a forward can be an able Captain, he sees the game 80 yards back how is he able to organise things from that perspective, also dropping Robinson, it was all teams needed to do was raid our left side and game over.

All in all Coyle has learned his lesson, and fair play along with the new signings things look rosy, but with Steinsson out on Saturday, I fear a return of Robinson.
