Well, it's finally been confirmed. 5 minutes after I logged off for the night. Cheers BWFC!  Angry

Quote
Bolton have completed the signing of Marvin Sordell for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £3million.

Sordell joins Wanderers from Championship side Watford, for who he scored 27 goals in 82 appearances.

The 20-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half year contract at the Reebok Stadium and becomes Bolton's third and final signing of the January transfer window, following on from Tim Ream and Ryo Miyaichi.

Coyle is understood to have beaten off competition from Cardiff City to sign the England under-21 international and the Wanderers boss admits he is delighted to have added Sordell to his squad.

"I am delighted to have brought Marvin to our club, as there were a number of other Premier League clubs tracking him," Coyle told the club's official website.

"We know that he has great potential and I am really looking forward to working with him.

"Overall, we're very pleased with all the players we have been able to bring in, as we have strengthened and added real quality signings to our squad."

Bolton Wanderers have confirmed the signing is subject to confirmation of approval by The FA and the Premier League, which is expected to be granted on Wednesday morning.

It's also on the Watford website, with best wishes for the future at BWFC.

Have to wait for Wednesday morning (after 8-9 a.m.) for BBC and Sky to call it official.

he could be another asset for us in the long run, but i wonder why its only for 3 and half years. Can't we go for five years so his contract doesn't wind down and sumone picks him on a free like they did for Elmander.

I know what you mean, but we could easily give him a new deal in the Summer. Big difference between £3.2m we paid for this lad and the £9-10m we paid for Elmander. The key to most of Coyle's signings is resale value. Chance of losing our shirt on this lad in the long run are relatively low, chances of making a profit are high. If he scores 8 goals this season for us it will be a great signing.

Quite pleased with this one (if Coyle plays him) pace is what it's about and this lad has it.

After falling behind after 25 or so minutes, England’s urchins rallied to rush back and roll over Israel 4-1 in a friendly  – with young Watford striker Marvin Sordell scoring the pick of the bunch with a left-footed exocet from 30-yards (skip to the 2:19 mark for Sordell’s rasper)…

Ahem...

Us, Blackburn and Newcastle are supposedly interested in Watford and England Under-21 striker Marvin Sordell. He's only 20 and very highly rated, so that probably puts us out of the running to get him.

All that worries me is that he was not Coyles first choice but lets give the lad a chance and fingers crossed he proves to be a wonder kid, Looking on youtube he was their penalty taker.

Read in the Mirror that Coyle wanted him earlier in the month but baulked at the original asking price. Nixon also said we were going to move for him in the summer but brought it forward to make sure he didn't go elsewhere.

Happy with this.

Yes, it's a bit of a gamble, but when you've got a budget the size of ours then we have to gamble a little bit.

Look at Sturridge.  Before he joined us, no-one knew whether he could actually cut it at the top level.  By the time he left us he was a £20m player.

I just hope Coyle doesn't revert back to 4-4-2 just to fit him into the team.

I'd love him to score 8 goals this season but maybe that's expecting a bit much.

General view of the Watford fans is he has loads of potential, good in front of goal, excellent technique, lot of pace but his weaknesses are poor work rate and mentality. Someone also said something about him playing best off a big man who'll do the work rate and put chances on a plate.

Certainly sounds like a player more likely to flourish in a 4-4-2 than as a lone front man. Maybe the plan is to revert back to the 442 next season once we have Holden back fit (who seems to be the difference between making that formation work)

A few West Ham fans (on their KUMB forum) are sayiing they'd rather have had Sordell for £3m than Vaz Te for £1m.

My guess is they've seen them both first hand.

Anyone know if the lad will the lad be on the bench tonight?

I hear Cardiff tried to pull a fast one when coyle rang Makkay for advice, apparently he said he wasn't ready to move while being lined up for a medical at Cardiff..

Only seen a couple of games of his. Bags of pace, hopefully he'll turn into a Sturridge for us, the only difference being that he's ours.

I have to say I am absolutely over the moon at the signing of Sordell. Well done to Gartside, Eddie Davies and Coyle for this. I really thought they'd bank the Cahill money but to sign a highly rated defender and one of the brightest young English strikers is so exciting. I am so looking forward to seeing him play for us. Get in there.

Is Owen going to play him and Ngog in alternate weeks or play them both together. I think probably depends who we are playing.

I can see Sordell starting life as an impact sub at Norwich, coming on for Petrov or Eagles, and part of a 4-4-2 against Wigan possibly the following week.

The term "impact sub" always amuses me.

Is that rather than be a sub who makes no impact?

It means a pre-planned attacking sub who offers something different and takes advantage of tired opposing defenders, like Michael Ricketts did.
