correct me if im wrong but are you not the bloke who said you would rather win the fa cup and get relegated than stay up and not win anything? and your calling people fickle you would swap a place in the best league in the world for a day out and 90 mins football then you my friend are no real fan.
I'm so glad you're here to tell people who is and isn't a real fan. That time I led the team out in the fourth division, those times I got abused and robbed by away fans while selling them programmes, turned up to ball-boy at reserve games, got up at 6am on a Saturday morning to get to Burnden in the winter to help out on the pitch, all that money I've spent on watching BWFC over the last 30 years, and on 27th January 2012 I find out I'm not a real fan because before I die, I would swap anything to see my team win the FA Cup.

The question should not be “cup win or survival,” it should be “cup win and relegation now, or survival now and relegation at some point in the relatively near future.”
I’d take the cup win. We’re going to get relegated. It’s a matter of time.

You're absolutely right Henrik.
Relegation is inevitable at some point, whether it's this season or not.
Join the fickle club.

Nah, Dave, it is inevitable. There's only a small handful of clubs who will realistically not be relegated at any point in the foreseeable future, and we are not one of them.
Do we actually expect to survive every season for, say, the next ten years, with no or next to no money to spend?
It is inevitable.

The growing gap between rich and poor makes it tougher every year to take points off the big teams. The fact that new investors are coming in means there are more and more "big teams." To think that just 5 or 6 years ago, Manchester City was a very winnable fixture for us.
Eventually, we're going to get crowded out.

Who spends more money on TV than any other country? Who has a rising young American star with lots of charisma? How many yank are in the EPL compared to say 3 years ago, and where are they? Do you think Apple would invest money to loose it? I personally think David Moyes and Owen Coyle are visionary and thinking out side the box No they are not picking up the best players in the world but are prospecting for future returns on a marginal investment

Sure, we have more money than any other league, but every other team in the Premier League has that same advantage. In fact, since money is distributed based on league position, the money factor benefits most teams more than it does us.
You are correct in that our only hope is to copy Billy Beane’s strategy, that is, find players undervalued by the market and get the most out of them. In fact back in Allardyce’s day we were really football’s answer to the Oakland A’s. It gets harder every year though since everyone is trying to do the same thing with a lot more money. And while Moyes has done a good job punching above his weight at Everton, don’t forgot he’s spend money we can’t even dream of. £15 million on Fellaini? £9 million on Bilyaletdinov? £6 million on a left back?

Everton has a left back?Never seen him
No I am talking about marketing the American soccer brand Cashing in on players like Holden not by selling him but making people buy the Stuart Holden image (Bolton kit) Make more people love the underdog We have a decent team to start, finish about 8th we can get a marketable name and attract better players

Largehat - I agree with burndenfaces that you are not a real Bolton fan like me. Relegation would cripple the club financially, the only way we can ever pay off all the debt the club is in is by being in the Premiership picking up the £40m plus pay cheques at the end of the season. In the Championship clubs get less than £3m in TV and prize money. For you to say that you'd rather we won the cup and get relegated shows that you don't care for the club like I do. You just want your special day out. I think maybe its time you supported United or Chelsea if you want that special day out. I am very disappointed in you. Very disappointed.

What you're saying is totally unfair, Malcoln. It's not about me wanting a special day out at all. I get a special day out on the third Saturday of every month ending in the letter y already. A minibus with a special ramp fitted on the back, that goes up and down, up and down, picks me up and takes me to somewhere special like Batley or Garstang for fresh air and a cream tea. So I have a special day out every May as it is, and wouldn't even go to the FA Cup Final featuring BWFC if it coincided with a trip over to Goole.

They'll sue Megson right after they finish suing the BBC for all the mean things they said about Craig Allardyce.

To be personally I honest I really cannot see Apple getting a share of the TV rights in the next franchise round. After the debacle of Setanta, I think the FA are more catious and would only go for more "proven" and "successful" TV operators - but only if money is right. If anyhthing I believe it will be more about qaulity than lump-sum. Next TV franchises I can see ESPN gaining half the TV rights with Sky having the other half. This would actually mean ESPN would either have to put more new/original sport on ESPN Classic or create an ESPN2. The only other possible contender for TV rights (as they have won rights recently from ESPN, BBC and Sky for other sporting events) would be British Eurosport (predominantly owned by French broadcaster TeleFrancais). Only possible way Apple could win a share of the prize is if a new frnachise was set up for live internet streaming games (which are usually packaged with the TV rights) but again thsi would be bonded by countries - i.e. in this case Apple could only show the live streaming for ".co.uk" users - but again, they would not be allowed to stream the Saturday 3pm kick-off, due to current rulings in the UK.

I hope ESPN don't get any more games. That's an extra tenner a month I draw the line at on top of movies, sport and HD.
I don't think the Setanta situation will affect the rights next time round where Apple are concerned. We're talking about a 40 year old company which makes $10b+ profit every year. It'd be like telling Richard Branson he can't put an offer in on an allotment.

I look forward to the day we get the chance to spank a team managed by G**y M**son, ideally at the Reebok.

I don't because it'll probably mean we've been relegated.

I don't because it'll probably mean we've been relegated. Don't be so negative, we could easilly draw a team managed by him in a cup (or he might even get a team into the PL, he has done it before afterall). But if it was to be a Championship match then lets hope we spank his team on our way to promotion via the Championship title!
