Thought someone might have mentioned this before now but our youngsters were unluckily knocked out of the youth cup by Southampton 2-1.
Soton have a good youth set up, look at the players they have brought through recently, and this team has won the last 6 scoring 20 and conceding 2, including beating Sheff U 7-0 in the last round and beating Arsenals youth 3-0.

They looked quality tonight but once our lads got to grips with them we went on to dominate the 1st half and scored with a header from a corner. We then had other good chances but didn't take them, while limiting them to very few chances and went in 1-0 up.

Soton must have had a rocket at h/t and came out much more determined. A bad 5 mins cost us when  they scored with a near post header and within 5 mins had grabbed the lead with a  goal that looked offside, and despite our best efforts we couldn't find another goal.
Based on tonight it looks like our academy is finally producing some decent kids. lets hope they keep progressing and get into the 1st team.

True, but the improvement in our youth side is really quite impressive, compared to a couple of years ago.  Our bad players now, would have been our good players then.  Caton and Kellett really do look like they've got real ability, and Dennis showed some promise (though tries to do too much).  I also thought Woodland did well once he got going.

We're broke, and the academy needs to start producing over the next couple of years.  The signs are (from my limited recent experience) that it might be on the right track, though there's a very long way to go.

Fair points. Good to see some more young players are going through. I really would like to see if Vela and Sampson can make it at the top level as well. We definitely have some promising talents coming through. I'd just like to see them given more opportunity.

They can't be much worse than any of the wankers we had on the pitch today.
