It's already been mentioned but unless we were offering silly money, I can't see Blackburn selling one of their best players to their main rivals when we're both in a relegation scrap.

Of course, but as Dave quite rightly points out, the kindest thing you can say about their owners is that they are unpredictable.  After sacking Big Sam when they were 13th and soldiering on with the hated Kean while they are bottom of the table, selling Hoilett to us seems in the realm of possibility.  Even if we did agree a fee, I cannot for the life of me see why Hoilett would trade the club in 20th for the club in 18th when he can arrange a much more lucrative move in the summer.

I wonder if this is more of a publicity stunt on our part, to communicate to the fans that despite all evidence to the contrary we actually are trying to stay up.  A bit like Newcastle bidding on Wayne Rooney.  All that was going to do was spark Manchester United into action but it looked good to the fans.

The only way I could imagine Hoilett coming here is if it's an agent-led transfer.  So an agent goes to Blackburn and says "you want more than just a tribunal fee", and convinces them to sell - at which point who they sell to is flexible.  Then it's actually in the agent's best interest for Hoilett to sign for an 'interim' club, weirdly.  Because if Hoilett goes to a long-term club, the agent only gets paid once.  Whereas if Hoilett joins us, then leaves in 6-18 months - the agent gets paid bringing him here and then paid again when he moves to a bigger club.

That's really the only way I could envisage it working.

If he signs for us instead of any of the top 10 teams that will go in for him it could only be because of this. His agent's his dad so there's a double payday for the Hoilett family for every transfer.

If there's any club that's been agent-run its Rovers. Their owners didn't even know you could be relegated from the premier league. The agent that orchestrated the takeover just happened to be Kean's agent & got them to sign his son too. He's also Coyle's agent & with Curtis's influence at the Reebok I suppose anything's possible.

I still can't see it though & if the bungs haven't been sorted then I hope to god we don't delay buying other players in the vain hope he'll turn them down & join us. It could drag on for a while.
Surely they're not that stupid so as Pedersen said it must be a publicity stunt.

Or a lazy journalist put some team names in a hat to link to Hoilett & pulled Bolton out. Once they reported it the rest of the lazy press just copied it the day after.

His debut was with our twin town in Germany, that must make him some kind on local hero.

The Bolton News says that Eddy Davies is backing this signing with his own money...so not the Cahill money(?).  It sounds like we are willing to pay a transfer fee AND offer him big wages to entice him to join us.

As to Spurs, etc., I thought they were waiting for the summer to possibly sign him.  Let's not forget, too, that 'Arry says he is interested in ANY player that reporters ask him about.

Nah, it'd need to run for at least 4 transfer windows to rival the Veloso rumour.

Hardly a surprise is it. It'd be a huge mistake by Blackburn to let him join their biggest rivals at this stage of the season.

Going slightly off thread.

Did anyone see that thing on the Skysports site about some agent ranting about a conspiracy theory that these protests are not 'real' fans and some who staged because of internal club politics? WTF?!

I've got off my arse and found it:

What a wanker he was, something Anderson he was called who has a son called Miles in Blackburns academy.  His accusations that people who speak out against him and the manager are not real fans is shocking and his attempts at acting and fake tears was embarrassing.

I saw the interview via the Sky site and I didn't understand what he was even alleging, it was all just some kind of rant.

Hmm I think Spurs to be honest.

Rovers have put a bid in for Andy Johnson too, maybe they are using the money for that from what they will get from us when we buy Hoilett........ Wink

When I heard we were linked with Hoilett I thought that is never going to happen. I wish we'd be more realistic with our transfer targets. Hoilett, linked with the likes of Spurs and only has 6 months of his contract left is never going to sign for us right now. Nicky Maynard has 6 months left on his contract and Bristol City are now desperate to sell, I'd love it if we went in for him. He can score goals and will have a resale value.

Yeah agree with your point but sometimes you have to take a chance
i.e. Ian Rush,Andy Cole and your own Kevin Davies all started out at
lower league clubs Im sure there are a few others

Indeed.

.. but for every Ian Rush, Andy Cole, Kevin Davies there have been a million Jon Steads, Jermaine Beckfords and Delroy Faceys.

I seem to remember a year or so ago Bristol City wanting £5m+ for Maynard.

If we could pick him up for a nominal fee and cheap-ish wages I'd definitely say worth a punt, but if our budget is as small as we all think it to be, then gambling on anyone is, well, a risky business.
