What's wrong with that?  Sounds like a fair enough length.

They'd be nuts to give him a 5 year deal ... and he probably wouldn't sign one for any longer either as he's no doubt still hopefull of a 'big' job coming his way.

Just think 2.5 years is very short sighted.

It takes a couple of years for most managers to find their footing if they have a long term plan. There's little point putting your heart and soul into a long term plan if you know your employers are more than likely going to ditch you midway through it.

Wasn't Allardyce's 10 years or something? (Ok, I think he fell a little short of his champions league/title aspirations).
