I saw an interview with Coyle today.  He said that with all the games coming thick and fast over new year there hasn't been time for Chelsea or Cahill to sit down and chat.

I'd expect it to be wrapped up by Friday, next Monday at the latest.

According to chelsea fans this may not get done with amount of wages cahill and his agent are demanding.

Apparantly they offered 70k but he is holding out for 120k!  Shocked

Logically this deal should go through but it would be typical of our luck this season if it got fucked up by a greedy agent or was only completed at the last minute leaving us no opportunity to spend the proceeds.

Cahill (or more likely his agent) is a fool if this is true.  To go in and demand parity with an established international such as A.Cole means he's jeopardising what could be a dream move.

Accept the £70k and if, in a year's time, he's playing out of his skin then seek an improved deal.  If he's played well enough to earn one then I'm sure they'll oblige.

Going to Chelsea would mean he'd be a dead cert to be a first choice CB for England in the Euros.  He'd be stupid to risk that just for the sake of more money.

Of course, easy for me to sit here and say don't bother, it's only £50k per week less.

Cant help think now that we should increase is asking fee to 10 million especially as Harry Redknapp is interested and don't give him away. Cool Cool Cool

I'd not believe what is printed in the papers; especially when it is about wages a player wants/a club is willing to pay.

We've already accepted the fee.  The only stumbling block seems to be wages.  Spurs don't need to offer any more to US than Chelsea have done.  They just need to improve their contract offer to Cahill.

I've got a feeling he's going to end up playing for 'Arry.

Coyle has said in The Bolton News that Spurs are more likely to offer money + players, whose contracts we wouldn't be able to afford. So the deal would break down on that basis.

It was rumoured that Cahill preferred to stay in the NW in which case he may end up at Man U according to the Sun.  Sad

Redknapp was at goodison last night so I am guessing he is still interested in cahill, unless he was looking at an everton player.

It wouldn't surprise me if old whiskey nose did put in a bid for cahill to be honest.

Great.  Cahill can go to Spurs, utterly flop, and be sold back to us in a couple of years.  Job's a goodun.

Manchester United could also join the race to sign Gary Cahill. Bolton agreed a £7m fee with Chelsea for the England centre-back, but have failed to agree personal terms. Now United could make a move to bolster their injury-hit defence.

Isn't he already a starting player for England now?

He'll not be in our team at the weekend and will start for Chelsea the following weekend. ITKFact.

Which is a pain in the ass, since getting something like Bassong or Huddlestone or Dawson + cash would be a great deal for us.  Stupid wage inflation.

I prefer Cahill not go to Spurs because 'Arry likes to do his business at 11:55 p.m. on January 31st.

Get it done and get it done early, so we can get his replacement in.

OC reckons there is a chance the deal will be done by the end of the weekend:

“There's a chance the deal can be concluded by the end of the week,” said Coyle.

“That's where we're at but I'm not party to any continued dialogue between Chelsea and Gary's representative.”

He won't go to Spurs.  'arry was at Goodison because they play Everton next, and I'm sure when Cahill and Bogdan got in each others way 'arry turned to his chairman and said something along the lines of "I'm glad we didn't sign him."
Now watch him go and sign for Spurs.

Is this going to drag on until the very last minute of the transfer window? I wonder how many deals are on hold as we wait for the Cahill transfer money to come in. Obviously, if he isn't bought this winter, this is going to be a huge problem.

Another topic, for another day (or message stream): I wonder what the club's plans are for Petrov in the summer? Are they going to try and resign him?

The deal for Ream seems to be going ahead, hard to know whether it's contingent or not.  It's hard to know, also, which of the rumours are accurate.  I liked the link to Onuoha, so it's a shame if that's not true.

As to Petrov, I don't think we'll make a decision until we're sure of staying up or going down.
