I remember a couple of chances from yesterday which didn't get shown on MOTD and I was looking forward to seeing replays of them.

Petrov flashed a shot wide.

Ngog played a good cross hard across the six yard box that Petrov sprinted to keep in. He picked out Klasnic in the box who turned and was then pulled back/fouled. The ref blew whistle and after a long delay he gave a free kick to Newcastle. Anyone know why?

How many fouls were there where players climbed on attackers backs near the edge of the box?

And what about the chance where Klasnic tried to beat his man on the edge of the box and was cynically impeded by the defenders arms (a bit like the foul that saw Gardner get a second yello on half way) but no free kick given.

I was behind the goal and on one occasion the linesman gave a goal kick as it had gone out, but it looked like he had dived anyway, and on the other it looked like a case of him trying to make it look like he'd been pulled back when he hadn't. Everybody behind the goal was angry with him for not playing to the whistle and so they should be.

Thanks for reading,

Gloria.

I got told by someone who was sat in the North Stand that Klasnic slipped. FĂșck knows why the referee gave a free kick unless he thought it was a dive. I thought he was going to give him a second yellow card for it.

Klasnic lost his footing when he was trying to find space. The only people who appealed for anything were the fans so why teh ref gave a free kick i have no idea. Because the game was so bad yesterday, no one has mentioned that the standard of reffing was as dire as ever.

I thought that too. I've not seen it on the tv but at the time I thought he'd clipped his own heels. The referee deemed Klasnic to have taken a dive so by the letter of the law, he should have sent him off. If he did take a dive, he got away with it.
