With the Cahill deal looking pretty much done already with Chelsea, assuming we get around 6 million for him who would you like to see bought in to replace him?
I should imagine we'll buy a couple of players equating to whatever we receive for cahill as we are obviously short on full backs etc but this signing really could shape our season as I dont think wheater and knight are as bad as everyone says, a little bit clumsy perhaps but i do feel that they would struggle when playing together as they are quite similar players and both lack pace. Given how clean sheets would be crucial to who could help us stay up this season who would you realistically like to see bought in?
Bearing in mind cost and the fact that they would be coming to a club near the bottom of the prem we are probably going to look at championship level or from abroad.
My realistic wish list Jack Hobbs, Winston Reid, Nedum Onuoha, Matthew Mills(Leicester aren't going up) Adrian Mariappa.
Have a Merry Christmas everyone

Apart from Onouha never heard of the others, who do they play for?

This is a hard one,I think a commanding centre half is needed along with someone with a bit of guile and creativity in midfield.Plus a goal poacher, but which of these do you buy or take on loan? The winter transfer window is not the best time to buy a player in my opinion,so do you hang onto the money and go for some new loan signings and get shut of the ones you have? hmmm tough decision

Even without Cahill, there are numerous areas of the park that need strengthening more than the centre half position. We could do a lot worse than Knight and Wheater with Ricketts as cover. The left back position remains a bigger worry.
Thanks for reading,
Gloria.

Onouha seems a decent shout although I hope he comes with more motivation than Boyata! Not convinced he's actually as great as people think either, Sunderland fans I know say he's decent but he's nothing special, injury prone too.
Poweful and pacey though. He can cover other defensive positions though if needs be which is always handy.
Ream sounds like another target. Might be worth a punt at a couple of million.
I agree left back might he worth considering, Ricketts can cover there and Robinson has to go at the end of the year so we're left with Alonso who looks good but if he's always injured then we'll be in trouble (also hasn't he still got a court case hanging over him in the near future?)

Ideal situation would be a "loan to buy" move for Onuoha. He'll be skeptical about coming to us when we're in this much trouble, and it would be risky for us to commit to a long contract with Man City wages. However, Man City will likely be skeptical about giving us another player on loan after Boyata became the first player Coyle ever criticized in public . . .

I don't think we need to replace Cahill. I always thought Wheater was signed as Cahill's replacement. With Knight, Wheater, Ricketts and Boyata we have enough cover.

And Ricketts is a complete question mark after his injury.

Anyone north of the border know how Rhys Williams is getting on a Falkirk, how far away is he from being ready? Never seen him play before. Might be needed at this rate !

He's done alright for Falkirk, played a bit sporadically at times not starting consistently. However the first division standard in Scotland is comparable to about league 1 at best so it will be a question of whether he is ever ready to play in the premier league, not at this moment anyway. He's coming back at new year though so back into the reserves for him.
