Does Coyle have no input? This kind of cock up was rare when we had BSA. He knew how to buy and sell, not that he was infallible.

You can't say Allardyce knew when to sell because he was rarely in a position to buy players with any sort of resale value.  In fact the one comparable scenario I can recall is with Ben Haim, which Allardyce screwed up.

Of course we did make a decent profit or at least get our money back on his younger signings (Anelka, Diouf, Meite, Faye) but he wasn't the one who made the call to sell.

Fair point HP. I should have said BSA had (or certainly seemed to have) the ability to influence decisions about players coming in and leaving us and he was usually right. Megson had money made available to him and presumably had some say in how it was spent. Coyle hasn't really been given money to spend but his choice of new players has been pretty poor. Pratley is useless as is Blake; Eagles is (in Coyle's own view) not good enough to start most games; Boyata, Tuncay and Kakuta have not been effective loan signings.

I accept that the contractual mess we are in is not simply down to Coyle but what has he done about it?
