Now that Coyle has finally seen the light and dropped SKD, Cahill has taken over as captain. I don't think he is a very effective captain but he is probably leaving in January anyway, so who should be captain? I think NRC is the obvious choice. He actually seems to care and does have a go at other players. I don't know who else would be a serious contender or who would deputise if NRC was unavailable though.

Yes NRC although I can't see SKD being out of the team for long, Robbo could do it IF he is in Coyles plans although most of you will rubbish that suggestion because you dont rate him,

Yeah, NRC. Sets the right example and is vocal.

I had to have a good think about this one for about a second, NRC without a shadow of a doubt.
Can't wait til Holden is back, i think them 2 in the middle would be a terrific partnership.

Cahill should have been made captain a long time ago. Davies as captain is the craziest election in the memory of man.
I'm not convinced NRC's approach has a positive effect on the team but I like that he's the only one that seems to care about the folk paying the money.
Thanks for reading,
Gloria.

Cahill should have been made captain a long time ago. Davies as captain is the craziest election in the memory of man. It made a lot of sense after Nolan left; Davies was in good form at the time, he was very much the face of Bolton Wanderers, and he put in a heroic performance against Spurs in his first game with the armband. He's just getting old and he should no longer be an automatic choice. Generally I'm not a fan of appointing someone captain so soon after joining a club but NRC is indeed the obvious choice. Although part of me wants to go with Klasnic for the humor/crazy factor.

NRC for me.
Never been a fan of Davies being captain. Far too often cuaght up in his own battles with whoever is marking him. He's also too quiet on the pitch.
We need a leader out there. We need someone who will dish out a bollocking if needed. Reo-Coker is that man.

You should only have a centre back or a central midfielder as captain, cos they should be able to see what is going on, or in our case this season, going wrong.
Cahill never says boo to a goose, even if he stays I wouldn't have him. Big Kev is the same. As a bare minimum you want someone who can dish out a bollocking, NRC is the only player that fits the bill. If he intends to stay with us long-term then he is the obvious, and only, choice for captain.

As a bare minimum you want someone who can dish out a bollocking . . . Well, in his last couple of years with us, that was about all Nolan was able to do and I suspect it just bred resentment. Would you want someone who can't control the ball in under 12 touches screaming in your ear for 90 minutes? I don't think the captaincy is that important. I think the best option is to give it to a player who is going to be starting every game when he is fit. This spares you from difficult decisions like dropping Jay-Jay or Davies when they are out of form. NRC fits this and he's also a leader as shown by the fact he was named captain at two previous EPL clubs.

Who is captain will depend a lot on whether or not we stay up. If we go down I would try to keep hold of Kevin Davies for another couple of years and he can stay captain. Stay up and move the captaincy to somebody else.. Reo-Coker would make a great captain but at that point will have just a year left on his contract. I would say fcúk it and make Jussi captain in that case.

Jussi? Is he not also out of contract soon?

Experience has it's place but keeping SKD as captain for another couple of years even in the Championship? He will be even slower and he's not a particularly effective captain anyway. Strikers and goalies seldom make good captains. It really is a role best suited for midfield or central defence.
