Good news. It seems Ricketts can play left back. According to the report on last night's reserves game "Ricketts came through the full 90 minutes of action operating in the left-back role" and he even scored a penalty in the shootout!
With luck Alonso's injury is not too bad and we may never have to see Robbo at left back again.

Fingers crossed.
Still not sure Coyle will risk him to play against Newcastle with less than 180 mins under his belt after such a serious injury.
All being well, presuming Alonso's injury won't keep him out too long we'll hve Ricketts at RB and Alonso at LB.
If Coyle also sticks with Muamba and NRC in the centre of midfield then we should, finally, not be a piece of piss to beat.

Ricketts did 90mins recentley in the reserves, hopefully he's ready for the Newcastle game or at least the Wolves game.
A month is bad, but the way he limped off and given he only just returned, I was thinking he'd be out for the rest of the season, so in that respect, not the worst news.

Having seen what a proper LB can do for us the prospect of having Robbo back is depressing. In the half hour he played against Rovers he did his best to undo all the good work by stupid tackles and an inability to get anywhere near the ball. Given our upcoming fixtures we need points in these next few games and having the shirt-kissing liability back is not going to help.
I have my criticisms of OC but TBF we've not had the best of luck injury-wise this season.

That might be stretching it a bit. It was his best game for us yet by an absolute mile. I think we need to see a few more performances like that to justify us ever signing him in the first place. It's a shame we've now got to wait until the new year to see if he's pushed on to the level needed. Shouldn't Alonso be doing bird in some Madrid prison by now anyway? That all seemed to go very quiet very quickly.

What did happen about the court case? Wonder if it's done and dusted or whether it will re-appear at some stage.

You've summed up my frustrations quite nicely there Wanderlust. His loony tackle on Tuesday epitomised him. Surely playing somebody out of position at LB would be better than having Robinson there. Shift one of the three centre halves out there?
Thanks for reading,
Gloria.

Could always go 3 at the back like Wigan, doesn't seem to be doing them much harm in recent weeks. Cahill......Wheats......Knight?

haha - you nearly had me then. I'll play along though. Who would you play on the left? Would you have Petrov covering the entire left-hand side of the pitch

Jussi Steinsson.Cahill Knight Wheater.Ricketts Mavies NRC Muamba Petrov Ngog and with a bench of Tuncay, Gardner, Eagles, Robinson, Boyata, KDavies, Klasnic we suddenly look quite strong.

N'gog'd be shite upfront on his own, but for once I do agree with the three at the back, giving Steinsson and Ricketts/Alonso licence to get forward more.

Need another centre back in January - can't go through half a season with Wheater and Knight, and Cahill is off to Chelsea. Lets see what Coyle can do with £2m to spend on a centre back.

Some proper tards on here, why play with wingbacks like Wigan do when we can play quality passing football with interchangeable attacking players who roam the pitch.

I heard we recently got knocked back for an American CB who was quite promising. Ok it's a knock back but the idea of buying Americans is not bad. In terms of appeal, we trail behind many clubs in most markets but with Stu Holden here and having toured North America you'd think that we should be able to attract quality Yanks at an affordable price. Trying to get the next Lallas could be the way forward IMVHO.

He was pretty good despite the dodgy hairdo - not the greatest by a mile but could hack it in the prem - and with our budget and connections the US could be the place to look.
