In Match of the Days attempts to be at the heart of politcal correctness and being the champion for racism, Alan Hansen referred to black players as coloured players when he was trying to discuss how the game had made massive strides in 20 years or so.
You could tell straight away he wished he had chose a different word but was obviously too late, the racism row rumbles on.
Thought I would get this in before Le God did.

I must admit I cringed when he said it and then said it again but then i thought to myself why is that term offensive? Is anyone actually offended by that word and if so why?

Le God probably is, he is 1/12th black and is Scotlands answer to Martin Luthar King.

Dear God, If anyone actually DOES complain then it's a sad state of affairs. It's no longer then 'accepted' politically correct term we should use, but it's hardly intentionally offensive is it? He actually said it twice though and I cringed on both occasions. I'm sure I saw Lee Dixon whince too. What I find odd though is you cannot refer to somoene as "coloured" but it is perfectly acceptable to say they "are of colour". Madness.

It reminded me of the quote from Gareth Keenan in The Office when he goes:
My dad, for example, he's not as cosmopolitan or as educated as me and it can be embarrasing you know. He doesn't understand all the new trendy words - like he'll say "poofs" instead of "gays", "birds" instead of "women", "darkies" instead of "coloureds".

Just left the complaint with OFCOM regarding Hansen, they told me they had no idea what i was talking about and asked me about my sexuality a lot.
i guess they're trying to cover it up.

Probably why Sluffy was binned, people like him and Alan Hansen are from a bygone era and just don't realise you cannot be referring to black people as coloured in 2011.

Rohan Ricketts wasn't too happy, '‘Is this Alan Hansen guy taking the f****** p***?? I’m not coloured??? He is part of the problem when using that word. We are BLACK Alan! Wtf''

Probably shows how little people are arsed to be honest, who really cares what Rohan Ricketts thinks and if he is the highest profile person to take exception then maybe Hanson's comments are not that big of a deal.

Hansen was clearly shooting himself in the foot. He got himself into a political correctness minefield when he started talking about it.
He should not have to say sorry. He clearly WAS NOT being a racist. In fact he was being the opposite and just used a word which people don't like any more. He was saying how good the country is in terms of equality etc - and if it really is the case I am sure coloured people would look past his offence and not be offended by it.

someone replied to the telegraph question with.......
"As far as I'm concerned it's coloured people like Indians and Pakistanis, black if Africans or Caribbean etc and Asian if yellow..."
Hilarious. "Asian if yellow!" - just brilliant if he meant it to be funny.

It's the monumental unnecessary fuss that's created over these incredibly minor issues that generates hostility and ultimately encourages racism.
Eventually, everybody's just going to give up treading on eggshells and say get a fcuking grip, and if you're unable to, you know where the airport is.
Thanks for reading,
Gloria.

Sending him back to Scotland would be a bit harsh though
