Looks like with a suspected injury to Alonso we will have Robbo in the team for the next few weeks/months. His challenge yesterday should have been been a penalty and therefore we should have drawn the game.
My point is Wayne Bridge is available in January. I for one would see that as a good signing.

He's becoming a bit of a liability on the booking front recently.
It's good to see a defender get stuck in, but he goes a little too far on a regular basis.

I'm guessing you didn't see his performances for West Ham last season then? He made Robinson look like Paolo Maldini.
Ricketts played 90 mins for the reserves yesterday so I'd expect him to be called up for the 1st XI sooner rather than later.

I may be wrong but I have never seen Ricketts play Left Back. Isn't he a Right Back and occasional centrehalf?
Granted Wayne Bridge isn't the player he used to be but I think he is better that Robinson and probably within our budget.
Every Westham player was rubbish last season. He almost went to the last World Cup so he can't be that bad.

I think you are right, but even so if he is fit I would prefer Ricketts to Robinson at left back. Robbo is now almost as big a liability as SKD.

He's played left back before I think. Petrov and Robinson don't have much chemistry. Give Ricketts a chance there.

I think Ricketts is one of those 'utility' players who can play anywhere across the back line. I'm sure (but may be wrong) he covered both RB and LB when he was at Hull.
Regardless though, I'd rather see him tried there than risk Robinson. He's a liability. As soon as Alonso went off last night we looked vulnerable down that side whereas all night previously we'd looked solid. He was also VERY lucky the ref didn't give a penalty against him.
Bridge USED to be an excellent left-back when he was at Southampton and then Chelsea. When he went to Man City though he suddenly seemed to lose "it". He was dreaddul which is why they went out and brought in Kolarov and then Clichy. He's not had a look-in there since. Last season at West Ham he looked like a player who didn't care - and why should he? He's picking up around £100k per week.
If Bridge was to come here, would he really have the stomach for a relegation fight for a club he doesn't care about?

I rate Ricketts. He was great as a stand in CB when Cahill was out last season and the Ricketts/Knight partnership conceded less goals than with Cahill in the team. He can play either side and get up and down the pitch with decent quality and delivery. Sam Ricketts is the kind of player any club would want in their squad. Sadly, we haven't got 4 of him. Forget Bridge please - he's a luxury item in an age of austerity. Robbo has always been a liability, simply because he's so slow. It looks good when he times a tackle, but better players can skin him for fun and that's when the trouble starts - stupid free kicks, the occasional penalty but mostly just leaving the left side exposed. That in turn pulls the CBs out of position and it all goes t1ts up. No amount of badge-kissing can make up for p1ss poor performances. TBF Robbo's had a couple of great games, but they're too few and far between and on a bad day he can lose it for us single-handedly. Alonso has problems but seems to be developing as a player despite his injuries so long term I'm optimistic he'll make LB his own. All we need to do for the moment is plug the gap with Ricketts, another CB or even Steinsson when Riley is back, but FFS not Robbo - my nerves can't take it.

Ricketts has played LB on a number of occasions even at International level.
His Grandad always made him practice with his left foot as soon as he perfected something with his right.
Get Robbo as far away from this club as possible he is and always has been mediocre and would look out of his depth in Div 1, has been stealing a living at this club.

Ricketts tends to be better at left back than he is at right back from what I have seen.

Once again the revisionists are out in full force over Ricketts. He's not the worst we've ever had but I can recall a few absolutely shocking performances from him at RB. At CB with Knight he was solid, granted. I'm pretty sure he's played at LB for us before as well - he certainly could do a job there. At peak potential I think Steinsson is a better RB than Ricketts, but I think Robinson has come to the end now and won't be regaining any semblance of good form. We need someone, anyone, in at LB - Ricketts would be fine, or Alonso if/when he's healthy. Ricketts is a great guy to have on the bench but I wouldn't want to be relying on him every week unless Robinson is the only alternative.

Why bother? He won't last more than 10 minutes without getting injured again.

We won't see him again. Coyle gave him his chance and then blamed our loss in that game on his sending off (which was a terribly convenient excuse). I'd have him over anyone else at LB when fit.

Another goal given away today by Robbo. Why doesn't Coyle realise that when you start a game with him in the team we have to score 2 goals to have any chance of winning.
I would love to know the number of goals conceded this season that's been his fault.

I think he only started him today because Alonso got injured.
Ricketts will play on Saturday.

Ricketts has to play on Saturday.
The thing is with Robinson is that Coyle can't sub him. He will play ok all game and then make one huge mistake. We all know it's coming. We all know it will be a goal when it does.
Coyle can't sub him and then say "Well Robbo. You were about to make that mandatory mistake again weren't you"
DROP HIM COYLE FFS DROP HIM!!!!!

Has anyone got Coyle's number?
I can pay little attention to what's around me, shout at people, wave my arms about & end up on my arse whilst staying at least 5 yards away from anyone.
And I'd do it for only £2000 a week plus image rights.

You only see the mistakes, apart from the obvious he had a pretty good game yesterday, get off the guys back, Taylor, Elmander, Robinson who's next? Cahill was part to blame yesterday for the second as he was for the Blackburn game, you going to get on his back Saturday?

I said eariler that he played ok for most of the game. There's no point having a defender that plays ok but makes 1 or 2 howlers each game that costs the team a goal or two.
I was never one to slate Taylor or Elmander. I quite liked them both. However Robinson is a total liability. Don't get me wrong. It's not his fault. He's just not up to it.
