Just to cheer myself up, I've had a look at the remaining fixtures - something I usually do around February to get an idea of where we might end up.
We have 9 points. Of the remaining fixtures I can see 7 "must win/should win" (is there such a thing as a should win for us this season?) "home bankers".
Wolves, Wigan, QPR, Rovers, Fulham, Swansea and West Brom. IF we win ALL of those we'll be on 30 points.

So where else will we pick up the other dozen or so points needed to avoid the drop?
The other remaining home matches are:
Newcastle, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Spurs. Maybe the odd point from Newcastle? In current form I can't see anything else, but I live in hope.
So that means we have to start winning on the road, starting at Rovers tomorrow.

The remaining away fixtures are:
Rovers, Everton, Man U, Norwich, Chelsea, City, Villa, Wolves, Newcastle, Sunderland, and Stoke.

There's a possibility that if we start playing well immediately, we could potentially get something away to Rovers, Norwich, Villa, Wolves and Sunderland but whether its enough is debatable. Can't see us getting anything at the others unless a dramatic change in form happens.

So even if we start performing now it'll be touch and go IMO. And if we lose any of the "home bankers" it will be the final nail in our coffin.

I don't think we're quite down yet but we are running out of time and that is a position I'd never have imagined we'd be in this side of Xmas. We just need a little miracle to happen and I'm the kind of optimistic fool to think it just might happen. COYW!

Well said that man, we can beat them lot tomorrow and most definatly beat the likes of Wolves and Newcastle at home. We have seen the best of Newcastle this year and Wolves are a joke at the moment.

That's 9 point giving us 18 going into the new year, we know we are going to be in a real dog fight for the rest of season but I really want the players to give it a damn good go.

Wigan stayed up a few years back after having the exact same points after the same amount of games.

If them bastards can do it,so can we.

is there such a thing as a should win for us this season?

Its this that I worry about. Everton, Villa, Norwich, Sunderland, all at home...beaten comfortably each time.

Then there's Swansea, WBA, Fulham away....beaten comfortably each time.

Call me negative, but we've been fortunate in terms of the points we've picked up. If we played QPR tomorrow, now that they've got a decent squad, we'd probably lose and if we played Stoke on another day, when they could play to even half their potential, we'd probably lose.

Thanks for reading,

Gloria.

I think we can stay up.  I don't think we can do it with Coyle.

I doubt that 40 points will be needed to stay up this year. I am not too optimistic for us, but we are only two wins behind the likes of QPR (who are doing a Blackpool at the moment). I think 35 points could easily be enough.

I've tried to remain upbeat all season, but do feel he footballing gods are conspiring against us which leaves me wondering
1. Has anyone out there any news on returns from injuries (Ricketts, chungy, mears, etc
2. Will Cahill go along with the two Lonee's, and who will replace them
3. Will this be enough to  us

Sorry if this has been discussed on other threads but I've been out of the  loop lately

Educated guesses suggest Ricketts will be back in the next fortnight, Mears probably towards the end of January and Chungy end of February.

Cahill will probably be off, as will Kakuta and I suppose we'll wait and see on Boyata. At the moment, the rumours of him going back to City are just that, rumours.

I still believe, but those are a pretty nasty bunch of away fixtures.

Come on the boys let's see some passion tomorrow.

Sadly I have to report that the Fat Lady died a couple of weeks ago but nobody noticed.
