To me these are just words. He's said exactly what we want to hear but it's time we started to do our talking on the field.

Quote
Bolton boss Owen Coyle has accepted responsibility for his team's league position following a 2-0 defeat at Fulham.

Two goals in as many minutes from Clint Dempsey and Bryan Ruiz just after the half hour gave Martin Jol's side a well deserved three points at Craven Cottage, leaving Wanderers routed at the foot of the Premier League table.

Defeat at the Cottage was Bolton's 13th of the season and 18th in their last 21 league games and Coyle admits Tuesday night's clash with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park will be the biggest game of the season so far.

"We need to go to Blackburn now and that's a huge game for us," Coyle told Sky Sports.

"There's no doubt that when you're on a poor run as we are then the next game becomes even bigger. Tuesday night is now the biggest game of the season.

"I think if you analysed the whole game (against Fulham) there isn't much in it, but they've had two very good finishes and we've defended poorly on two instances.

"My chairman (Phil Gartside) and my owner (Eddie Davies) know exactly what I'm doing at the football club and how we want to proceed in terms of the long term.

"Equally everything I put in place for the longevity at the club has to be backed up by results in the Premier League.

"We have to accept we're in a dogfight in a dangerous area of the league and we have to address that. The only way of doing that is by winning games.

"As a manager I accept total responsibility for that. I could understand why fans would be frustrated because I certainly am.

"I'm passionate about this football club, I came to Bolton to do the job.

"There's no doubt that we've been hampered by injuries to probably our two best players, Stuart Holden and Chung-Yong Lee.

"But having said that, that happens up and down the country. The problem we have is we don't have like-for-like replacements. Even with that, I don't think any of us would have envisaged where we are at the moment.

"I'm not going to look to make excuses. You have to stand up and be counted and I'm prepared to do that.

"Where we are we can only improve. I've said to the players to take the fear out of their game. We know there's good players there, confidence is key."

In 19 previous Premier League campaigns, only one team has avoided relegation after being bottom at Christmas

Bolton's travel to Blackburn on Tuesday night knowing only victory will move them off the foot of the table, where they will be replaced by their Lancashire rivals.

Some interesting things mentioned by Coyle there, I think he talks a lot of sense and for that reason I think he should be given more time.

I do still feel a bit sorry for Coyle. Injury problems, little to spend, ridiculous opening fixtures & I also get the impression that he's being asked to do what he can whilst lowering the overall wage bill etc. so we can eventually comply with the new Financial Fair Play Rules (which are a frigging joke).
However, he says,
"The problem we have is we don't have like-for-like replacements." Surely if that's case you need to look at a different way of playing then instead of praying that someone's going to suddenly click & start playing like Stuart Holden.

One thing I always admired about Allardyce was that he'd get every bit of info or stats he could possibly get his hands on; whether it was about an individual's performance, overall team play, goal scored/conceded stats, team comparisons, set play stats etc & he would use them to make decisions about who should play, their diet, individual training plans, tactics, set-pieces etc. He would use everything that was available to him to aid in his decision-making.

Before today we had conceded more goals from crosses than any other team (10 - which is double the amount Wigan have & 5x that of Swansea) & more from corners than any team (8- twice as many as Blackburn & Wigan, 4 x Wolves, 8 x West Brom).

This has been an obvious weakness to us all for a long time but when SKD said about them working on set-pieces & team shape before the Villa game it almost came across like they hadn't really worked on them before that. Now they have you would now expect some improvement & common sense, but then today, Boyata gets nowhere near challenging for a cross & who marks their best header Hangeland at corners? Ivan Klasnic when surely you want Knight or Cahill on him. Not to mention how bad some of our set pieces are.

Allardyce would have looked at the players at his disposal, their recent performances, team stats etc & set up his team & training sessions accordingly. He would have played the percentages, concentrated on keeping a clean sheet first, then worked on set-pieces for goals. Once confidence is up then you can start trying to play more attacking football.

Coyle just seems to keep doing the same thing, blindly hoping things will change eventually. When he has changed personnel it hasn't exactly had the impact we all hoped which means its more down to the system & training. Yet little seems to change in those repects.

I really want Coyle to work out but feel he really needs someone experienced to come in, looking from a fresh perspective, who can give him a bit of guidance.

Well could they please explain it to me then?

I'm not really bothered about whether or not he accepts responsibility.

The only thing I wanna hear him say is that he intends to give something completely different a try against Blackburn. a 4-5-1 that doesn't involve Kevin Davies, or even a 4-4-2 that doesn't involve Kevin Davies.

Otherwise he should just shut up, because its all verbal diarrhea and it wears thin when we're as bad as we are.

I think he was banking on Holden being fit after the horrendous run of fixtures we had to start the season.

We knew Chungy was going to be out for most of the campaign so he brought in Chris Eagles. He may not be the greatest player in the world but only Ivan Klasnic has scored more than him this season.

Holden was due back September/October time and returned right on schedule. Because of this, I don't think we were in the market for a replacement when perhaps we should have been.

Injuries shouldn't be used as an excuse though. It's obvious that there are problems all over the pitch and there appears to be precious little we can do about it.

No. We will lose and we will still have the clueless twat wittering away. He will be still be here in May despite us spending the rest of the season rooted to the bottom of the table. It would cost money to sack him and get a replacement. The only time we had cash to spend it was given to Megson.

If Coyle wants to accept the responsibility, then why does he not just accept that he cannot make the grade and just resign!

Coyle's an ambitious manager who won't struggle to get another job once he leaves Bolton. Some of the bigger Championship clubs with bags of potential would snap him up. He's nothing to lose in staying it Bolton. He has a chance to redeem his reputation and the worst that could happen for him is he gets sacked, in which case, he gets a massive payout. He'd be insane to resign.
