Owen Coyle has insisted he is not afraid of losing his job and Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has maintained the manager is a part of the club's long-term plans.
A miserable 12 Premier League losses already this season have sent the club to the bottom of the table and piled the pressure on the Reebok Stadium boss.
Bolton also ended the last campaign with five successive defeats to create questions about Coyle's security with Bolton.
But the former Burnley manager is not scared of the sack, as he said: "I don't fear for my job. If people who make the decisions feel that is the right decision, then so be it.
"I have been long enough in the game to know it's a results business, regardless of what I put in place for the future."
Gartside has also offered Coyle assurances over his job and has repeated they are planning for the future.
The Bolton chairman said: "Owen is our man. We are working to a longer term here.
"He is committed to it and we are committed to the job in hand. We have had to change the way we work because of the finances of football. Owen is a big part of that project."

"I have been long enough in the game to know it's a results business, regardless of what I put in place for the future." Jesus. If what we have is the future, then we might aswell turn out the lights and lock the doors now. There is nothing at all in our squad, added by Coyle, that can be considered building for the future ! Any player with even an ounce of ability will be gone the minute we go down.

I think he came out with that rubbish after the Spurs game, I haven't seen much from the chairman/board since saturday.

Gartside is hardly going to say anything other than Coyle is his man, as he knows he has made 3 monumental fcúk ups with his managerial appointments, and has cost the club millions in compo, Gartside as well as Coyle must be on very thin ice as far as ED is concerned.

What he's basically saying is results don't matter; as long as the finances are alright.

The only thing that got Smegma sacked was blatant crowd disapproval. As mentioned in the 'When did the Reebok die?' thread, the Reebok is dead! I don't mean in a numbers sense. The crowd act like they've accepted we're going down. The only thing that will make Fartside even consider pulling the trigger is if things get nasty in the crowd. If it hadn't been for fans' involvement, Megson would still be our manager. That idea probably doesn't seem as scary to some as it once would have, but baring in mind how things were going, and the fact that he kept the club in the league on a far more flexible budget than Coyle has to manage on, we might have gone down a year a two ago.
Thanks for reading,
Gloria.

If Phil Gartside is serious about a long-term project and Owen Coyle being that long-term leader then why hasn't he offered him a new contract given that he's got little more than six months left on his deal.
Empty words of two men who are perhaps running out of ideas and excuses.
If PG backs OC tomorrow with a new 3 year deal then I'm sure there'll be a lot of initial anger but eventually some acceptance to say 'ok, this is the guy we're going with through thick or thin'.
We do definitely need another Allardyce type run with a long stint as a manager. Whether you want that to be Owen Coyle or not is another thing (personally, I'd be very doubtful he is the man to go with long-term) but that's for the board to decide.
If we are going long term then back up your words because in two or three games time we are going to be a long way adrift at the bottom, bottom at Christmas and it's going to be a long struggle to even get off 20th never mind to 17th. If Owen Coyle is your man long-term then fine, by the time relegation comes perhaps the fans will have accepted it and we can start to look forward to trying to get back there within a season.
But right now, words are not enough. Like the players on the pitch, the manager, and now the board, some sort of action is needed.

Of course it is about the finances if you think anything else you are deluded. ED has gone as far as he is prepared to PG and OC know this.
I suspect they looked at last season and the clubs coming up and set the budget damned low with the hope we would have enough to see us through to the end of the season and allow some of the older high earners to leave, then re-structure the wages and contracts of the new signings to those of a club aiming to just survive.

It doesn't look like he's going to get sacked no matter how many games we lose. We need to start getting points so hoping we lose is just daft.

I don't think he'll get sacked and relegation is part of the long term "project". Would relegation be such a bad thing. I mean what chance have we got of ever qualifying for europe again without the full backing of a billionaire. I am now resigned to watching Championship football next season with OC in charge. Who knows, we might actually stand a chance of winning a few matches.

It doesn't worry me to much BUT! Is the nucleus there to survive the Championship? Chungy, Holden and . . . . . . . .. oh! thats it.

The interesting thing about Bolton is that despite being considered one of the very smallest clubs in the league, last season it generated more revenue than eight other Premier League clubs - the vast majority of which the club could not have brought in had it been in the Championship. Yet it still lost 20 something million, despite spending very little on players. This would suggest that the club's total costs are astronomical, and it could not survive in the Championship without a huge makeover. This makeover would involve flogging several players at a cut price (as potential buyers are aware of the club's desperate need to sell, putting it in a weak bargaining position) on top of the exit of numerous out of contract players. So its likely that the club would need to build virtually a whole new team that costs it a massive amount less than the current one. I'm quite liking the idea of a year in the Championship against a whole new range of opposition, but its not likely to be all that spiffing as far as the club is concerned.
Thanks for reading,
Gloria.

For once I agree 100%. For me personally, if we go down, I'd rather see 11 players picked up from Leagues 1 & 2 who want to be at Bolton than the current bunch of spineless fannies. Although I wonder just how many of the contracted players we could offload....who's going to match the wages that the likes of Muamba & Reo-Coker currently enjoy.
