Seeing as it now seems inevitible we will be relegated, what starting 11 would you go with, and remember 11 players out of contract in the summer.

                                                         Bogdan
                       Riley         Ricketts       Wheater      Alonso
Lee     Reo Coker       Holden  M Davies      Eagles

                                               N'Gog

That would be a pretty decent Championship team if set up right, so all is not doom and gloom even when rather than if we go down, we can have a little confidence that we would make a rapid return.

That team would struggle in the Championship, but I doubt whether Lee & Holden would still be at Bolton, so it's potentially even worse.

Lee and Holden will still be with us next season, after their horrendous injuries any potential purchaser will want to monitor their progress, the earliest they will leave is January 2013.

Someone will take a punt on Holden, Lee will definitely go, he won't want to slum it in the Championship.

It is one of the rare occassions, so better flag this thread for future reference, but I totally agree with Natasha on this one.  Holden will probably go back to the Major League, whereas Lee will be picked up by one of the current Premiership Clubs or even go overseas.

Holden absolutely would not go to MLS, he'd make more money in the Championship with Bolton.  At the very least one of the promoted clubs would make an offer in the event we went down.

You would still need a decent striker in that line up.

aaron, at first glance the average age of that team looks well over 30. I dont think that would work in the lower leagues with more games and more clogging.

Don't think it would be great myself to be honest, just can't help thinking that will be roughly the side we will put out.

Lee and Holden may still be here, as I think teams will want them to prove their fitness before taking a gamble.

If we get relegated Klasnic will be the first to jump ship.

Is this a wind up? Even Coyle might be thinking Robbo and SKD are past it next season and Gardner was past it last season (even if he could play for more than 15 minutes without getting injured).

There was a thread a while back suggesting that relegation might not be so bad. I did not agree with that sentiment then and looking at the potential squads in this thread confirms just how bad relegation is going to be for us. We won't keep Lee or Holden, Cahill will go and probably Klasnic. We have a number of aging and underperforming players (SKD, Jussi, Robbo) still under contract and little evidence of younger players coming through.

We won't even make the play-offs next year. Serious work under a new manager is needed otherwise we going to follow the likes of Charlton, both Sheffields and Leeds.

Ok who would you have on the left wing and left back?

Petrov's contract is up at the end of the season and he isn't going to stay if we go down.

Alonso may be in the nick by then aswell.

First eleven next season in the Championship will be Kevin Davies plus 10 free signings assembled from non-league, european third division teams and the lucky winner of a play for the whites competition.

If Coyle is still mismanaging us he will probably play someone out of position at left back (or sign the Burnley reserve left back). The left winger will be the winner of the play for the whites competition.

Not the best thing you really want hear from your manager if your low on confidence: -

“We know some players have had to play because we haven’t had the personnel, because of the injuries we’ve had, and with all due respect, without them they probably wouldn’t be in the team.

http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/9413699.Options_running_out_for_Coyle/

If I am mis-reading that then ok but it looks like he is pretty much saying I don't think your good enough for this league.

Begs the question why he even botherd bringing them in if he was only going to play them if other players got injured.

Assuming Coyle is still in charge and working with personnel that we will actually have next season I would guess this is Coyle's starting eleven:

                                       Jussi

Mears                Knight             Wheater         Ricketts

Eagles              Reo-Coker        M. Davies       Blakeman/Obadeyi

                        Davies                N'Gog

which should mean we are guaranteed a bottom half of the table finish and a humiliating thrashing from Sheffield Wednesday.

Not sure why you think bottom half of the championship with that team, play-offs with that team if and it's a big if we get it right.

Given owens love of the younger players he would probably put Riley and O'Halloran in the mix too.

I think gartside will also be looking at his record with burnley in the championship for next season if we were to stick with him.

If we go down I'd assume:

Leave on frees or sold in January: Steinsson, Cahill, Robinson, Petrov, Gardner, Klasnic, Blake, Davis

Wage drop dependent: Jussi, Davies(will probably be given 1 year out of loyalty), Knight (I'd get rid but I could see us giving a new deal due to lack of players)

Sold (assuming someone will have them): NRC, NGog then possibly Muamba, Holden and Lee.

At worst I'd have us with a squad of

Bogdan/Lainton

Mears/Riley
Wheater/???
Knight/Connolly
Ricketts/Alonso

Eagles/???
M.Davies/???
Pratley/???
??/Blakeman

Davies/Eaves
??/???

Not awful, but not great. If Muamba/Reo-Coker fancied a year or even better Ngog, Lee and Holden then I'd be satisfied and with an addition or two where we are short, I'd expect promotion.

If I seem too pessimistic it is because I no longer have any belief in Coyle. I was pleased when he arrived and he is a nice guy but he doesn't seem to have a clue now. He is tactically completely useless and for whatever reason he isn't able to motivate the players plus his transfer policy has been pretty awful. If he stays in charge I cannot see any of this changing, so with the kind of squad we are realistically looking at having here next season I honestly do not expect us to be able to finish in a play-off spot. At best we will finish mid-table.

Ok, we're not dead and buried yet. Of course, there's nothing to suggest that Coyle will suddenly develop a brain, but we're not THAT adrift (yet!.

We NEED to beat Fulham though. Otherwise, I think the gap will just be be too much to get back from.
