We have never been kindly treated by referees but occasionally one of them makes a mistake and we benefit.

Back in the good old days under Big Sam we hardly ever got penalties because SKD didn't fall over and Stelios fell "too dramatically" but I do remember Diouf (who else!) conning a penalty out of the ref in a game at Blackburn. Since we won 1-0 and it was Blackburn I'm not complaining but does anyone else remember us benefitting from refereeing errors?

It would be too easy to list all the times we have been screwed by referees (starting with Attwell yesterday) but my personal favourite was back in I think 1976. It was at The Valley, Charlton's former massive ground. Virtually at the end of the game we were penalised for time wasting and the throw in was awarded to Charlton. The ball was thrown in to the penalty area and a Charlton player raised his arm and hand-balled it into the net. Everyone in the ground saw it except the ref and the linesman. Even the Charlton players looked embarrassed - this was a long time ago- and there was little or no applause from the Charlton fans. That "goal" cost us promotion to the then First Division.

That Blackburn game with Diouf going down was brilliant.

Penalty for nothing to even out an earlier joke penalty award that sent us to Wembley in the Sherpa Van  at Blackpool.

FA Cup sometime in the 90's against Bradford City.

David Lee literally dragged a Bradford defender down on the bye-line and pinched the ball off him and almost walked it into the net.

That was a league game in the 92/93 season wasn't it? We won 5-0.

Hmmm if anybody remembers the famous 22 man brawl at Burnden Park in 1997 against Wolves, not one player got booked by referee David Allison, simply amazing. If it happened today how would Atwell and co, deal with that. Undecided Undecided Undecided

Both clubs would be in serious shíte if that happened today. Almost every player on the pitch should've been sent off.

It was great.

Gerry Taggart running half the length of the pitch to smack Keith Curle in the face was brilliant. We had some proper hard bastards in that team and Wolves regretted starting that brawl. Not only were we the best footballing team in the division that year we were also the hardest team and could dish it out if needs be. Good times.

The penalty that Blackpool were given that night is one of the worst decisions I've ever seen given against us.  I remember Mike Doyle getting Roger Wylde sent off at Oldham.  He was poked in the chest and went down better than any of todays foreigners.

The foul was about 5 yards outside the penalty area. George Tyson was the ref iirc. He was shíte.

In a game at the Reebok against West Ham years back the ref awarded us a corner when it was clearly a goal kick.  Great, except, if my memory serves me correctly, Trevor Sinclair received the ball after a poor corner, ran up field and scored the only goal of the game.  Cheers ref.

I think John Sheridan ran past Geoff Thomas and gave him a nudge. Thomas then turned round and shoved McGinlay. Then it kicked off big time and our players ended up twatting them. That's how I remember it anyway.

That's pretty much how I remember it.

As an aside, Geoff "Chipper" Thomas is married to my cousin.
