This season has seen two managers getting a rough ride from their supporters, where the media has blamed it all on their connections with local rivals.

Steve Bruce's sacking had nothing to do with him having spent a fortune on mediocre players and never having Sunderland looking anything better than a lower mid table side, it was just because he's from Newcastle.

Alex McLeish hasn't had a rough ride at Villa because he was appointed after taking a quite expensive side down for the second time in four years and the appointment was therefore downright uninspiring for a club of Villa's stature - its because he was brought in from Birmingham.

Is this sort of journalism downright shitty?

I don't think its "sloppy". I think it is Journalists simply over exaggerating stories in order to make it seem like there is more to the story than there already is. Obviously they know the real reasons the managers were sacked, they are just being sensationalists.
