Let's just re-live how bad that last red card was (emirates) on this video at 3 mins 40. http://soccerblogvideo.blogspot.com/2010/09/arsenal-4-1-bolton-song-great-chip.html

And this weekends red card about 1 minute in.

For the sake of being completely fair, it should be brought up that Attwell could have sent Davies off at the Emirates for an awful challenge and there could have been few complaints. Instead he brandished just a yellow. Not that two wrongs make a right.

His complete lack of consistency epitomises the modern day Premier League referee.

Thanks for reading,

Gloria.

P.S. No, I probably would not have written this post had the awful challenge in question not been Davies'.

At least Twattwell has been consistent in the way he deals with Cahill's challenges.

Hear is a view from a former top premier league ref.

Former referee Graham Poll has told talkSPORT that Stuart Attwell is ‘clinging on’ as a Premier League official after he controversially sent off Bolton’s Gary Cahill against Spurs.

Attwell red carded the England centre-back for tackling Tottenham’s Scott Parker on the halfway line but Poll believes it met none of the criteria for a sending off.

He feels Attwell may have been swayed to make the decision because Mike Dean did not give Chelsea defender David Luiz a red card for a tackle on Newcastle’s Demba Ba in the early televised match on Saturday.

And after the mistake Poll admitted other officials find it odd that the 29-year-old is still used in top flight matches.

He told the Press Pass: “It’s an unfortunate coincidence that happens where back-to-back matches have two incidents which highlight exactly what is and what is not an obvious goalscoring opportunity denied and the referees get it the wrong way round.

“You just wonder, was Stuart Attwell watching the Newcastle v Chelsea game, because it was on first and in his preparations he might have been filling time and saw it and thought, ‘I better not miss one today’.
