Its interesting how many people are having to eat their words about him this season.

Last term, many fans were too far up Kevin Davies' crack to notice that Johan Elmander outshone him throughout. I often heard Kevin Davies taking fans plaudits for the things that actually Elmander had done - creating chances for Sturridge is the best example of this.

Although I despised his attitude towards the club at the end, when asked which of our current strikers I would swap him for, I answer without hestitation, any of them.

He was shite. I wouldn't have him back. But we've done this to death.

Fcuk off Malcolm.

I believe Gartside said that Galatasaray doubled Elmander's wages, in which case this is a bit of a pointless exercise since he was never going to stay.

Good riddance to the lazy arsed wanker. Cost ust £20m in fees and wages and he gave us about 12 decent performances in three seasons.

People underestimate how much Kevin Davies may be pocketing. He has previously been the club's highest earner on £55,000, £5,000 more than Elmander ever got. He signed a new contract in the summer, but how much of a paycut would he have been willing to take?

KD cost us nothing and for the last 8 years or so has often carried this team on his own. He's had a few poor games this season.

Coyle's insistance that Elmander play every game after the Wembley thrashing, often in midfield, is partly the reason this pisspoor run started in the first place.

For argument's sake we'll assume that the suggestion that Kevin Davies has carried the Bolton team on his own for the last 8 years isn't claptrap and is a fair point.

A player shouldn't be valued by a club based on past contribution. Aren't his accumulated earnings from his club over the years enough of a thank you?

1. I never believe anyone when they claim to know a player's salary

2. Last season he was playing well enough to get his first cap. What do you suggest they do, alter his basic salary weekly dependant on performance? That stuff is taken care of in the bonus system, of which he will not be getting much right now.

We seem to have a couple who love Elmander who is in a large part responsible for our current financial shitness but seem to hate Kevin Davies and use every opportunity to have a pop. Bizarre to me.

I suggest they shouldn't have offered him a new contract. If we insist we're in need of that sort of player, we could have done some better business with Wigan Warriors.

The worst part of the Elmander saga was letting him run down his contract and leave for nothng, having paid £8m or £11m for him depending on who you believe. He should have been offered a contract 12 months earlier and sold if he didn't sign it. He is still a current international so must be worth something on the transfer market but we let him walk out for nothing

We are now doing the same with Cahill.  £5m from Villa reserves, turn him into an England centre half , (going rate £24m based on Lescott), but no, we let him also run his contract out and leave for nothing, or peanuts in January. No wonder we are in so much debt.

According to the BN last week we have another 11 players out of contract in the summer, who can also leave for nothing, yet in our accounts, apparently our squad is worth £60m!  If we continue letting all our players run down their contracts, then our squad is worth nothing.

Who is in charge of all this? and when are they going to be held to account?

I was one of Elmander's biggest critics but I can now see what he did for the team and that was holding up the ball so that the rest of the lazy tossers could get up the pitch.

Which is precisely what this seasons's team lacks most. The ball is with Klasnic or Davies and nine times out of ten, they'll lose it - and they won't work to win it back either, giving the opposition the chance to come at us. Everybody has been blaming Robinson for this season's poor defensive record but the front line is as much to blame as anybody. That is where the defense begins.

I was never a huge fan of Elmander's either - though I could never understand how the stadium erupted with anger with any foot he put wrong, yet Kevin Davies, who was on a similar amount of money, could put in one bulldozer performance after another and get no abuse whatsoever. Elmander didn't ask Smegson to pay a fortune for him.

This thread should've been called Daniel Sturridge.

Because that's what this seasons team lacks most.

£30,000, of which £20,000 is basic and the rest incentivised.

Thanks Howfen. I'd missed you turning every thread into a chance to abuse Kevin Davies.
