I went to church last Sunday and was roped into helping out with Sunday School. I was astonished to see several of the children playing XBox. XBox in bloody church, I kid you not. In my day it was all about the bible and shíte.

On the way home I was complaining to my sister and she said it's all kids talk about these days, and she should know as she's a teacher.

Why are we letting our children use these evil machines? They are good for two things only: helping to lose your eyesight and gain weight. And the government wonders why the majority of our children are fat bastards in glasses.

Computer/console games are much more of a threat to our children than drink or drugs will ever be. When I was about 14 I become hooked on a Commodore 64 game called 'The Double'. It took about 45 minutes just to complete one game. I spent every waking hour on it, often feigning illness to avoid school so I could continue my quest to win the elusive double. I then progressed onto Kick Off and Kick Off 2 on the Atari ST. I turned down dates to fuel my habit.

We can't let what happened to me happen to our children. There are no benefits whatsoever to letting children use these machines. it's just pure laziness on the part of the parents.

What do you think? Are computer/console games more of a threat than drink and drugs?

I doubt kids play on an Xbox for two hours and then start fighting and smashing things up before puking up.

I reckon drink might be a bigger threat.

They have a room for Sunday School, it has a huge plasma tv and a choice of games or DVDs.

Well i think the church may need to re-assess that decision if they're worried about the effect of games on children.

I assume Grand theft auto wasn't one of the games.

Fair enough, but few parents actually hand their teenagers alcohol, the kids have to go out and buy it illegally.

But most parents are quite happy for little Johnny to spend hours a day blasting aliens. How can this be right?

depends on how it's affecting their life; like Dave said it's better to have them do that than be binge drinking every night.

if it's affecting their school work or mental state then yes, it could be a problem.

hardly worse than drink or drugs IMO. I'd be more worried about what they're being forced to read in the bible than the effect of Ratchet and Clank.

Religion probably kills more children than computer games.

In this day and age it's a lot better to have the kids indoors of a night, where you can keep an eye on them, than have them roaming the streets as in olden days with all sorts of pervs (bangerhard) knocking about.

What should the parents be doing? Sending the kids out the house to play and hang around outside the shops?

I don't think it's a big issue. But then again, it's the parents responsibility to make sure they aren't on the console 24 / 7 all the time?

It's fine in moderation.

That's definitely a different church to the general church.

They are not killing our children but the advent of these computer games has left us with a generation of illiterate oinks. When they are not sat killing zombies and pretending to be rap gangsters on their Playstations and X Boxes they roam the streets like feral animals dressed head to foot in designer sportswear and the ubiquitous hoodie.

They see respect for their elders as a sign of weakness and an ASBO as some sort of badge of honour that they can stick on their bedroom wall next to a poster of Amy Winehouse.

If you ask them, ' Have you ever read Pride and Prejudice' ? they look at you as if they have just found dogshit on their sneakers.

No, not at all. Just that playing computer games at Sunday School must be a new thing.

Spot on Gaz. They have wannabe Z listers from Big Brother as their role models. They wipe out entire platoons of terrorists on their computer games and think they are big. Give them a gun and a uniform and tell them to get to Afghanistan  and kill some real terrorists and they will end up with a shitstain in their designer jockey shorts.
