I went watching Lee evans at the M.E.N last night and he is has to be the funniest comedian I have ever seen live or on dvd and if you can go to see him live I highly recommend it.
Also went to see dave spikey at the bolton albert halls the other week who was also funny but not in the same league.
Who is the best comedian you have seen, not on dvd but live?

I've only ever seen Russel Howard live, but fooking hell he was funny! I remember he did a bit about things that made him happy at the end of his show, one of the things being "Anything Ian Holloway says".
I would love to see Bill Bailey live.

Bernard Manning.
I saw Lee Evans years ago when he was the warm up man for Jack Dee - most people thought he was the funniest of the two on the night - I didn't find him funny at all!

I don't understand the big fascination with Lee Evans either.

Best Male comedian I've seen is Chris Rock at Manchester Apollo 2007. Best female comedian - Maria Bamford at San Francisco Punchline in 2002.
My God, we have some awful British standup on TV these days. Al Murray and Jimmy Carr spring to mind as being particularly bad.

I'd almost forgotten Bernard Manning. Went to his Embassy club, must have been around 20 years ago. Brilliant night, laughed till I nearly cried. Saw Chubby Brown who was great for the first hour but you do get a bit worn down after 3 hours non stop jokes about minge/fannys.
Lee Evans I've never got. Totally over rated but each to their own.

Denis Leary many years ago in New York, a true comedy master.
The best British stand up I have ever seen is Alan Carr. Sharps would like him.

I seen Tim Minchin last year in Belfast. Hes amazing as a standup, and pianist. His songs are brilliant. He's not everyones cup of tea and it took me a while to actually listen to the words of his songs but now I would highly recommend him. There is one of his shows shown on a regular basis on one of the '4' channels, not sure if its channel 4 itself or E4 but if you ever see it listed, give it a watch.
Just a note to say that I wouldn't watch him if you get offended by religious jokes or songs.

I hate Lee Evans with a passion, Harry Hill too.
Jimmy Carr for me by a country mile.

Reginald D Hunter (at Toomlers Comedy Club in Amsterdam) - he was on Something for The Weekend (BBC2) earlier.
In fact seen quite a few comedians at the Comedy club and have to say that the Yanks are better than us Brits at stand-up, although saying that the British male stand-up comedians are better than British female stand-up comedians.

Phil Cool was brilliant in his time, to be honest I forgot about him, but saw him live a few times.

Difference is, Phil Cool was quite funny and didn't sweat like a paedo in a playground.

Phil Cool had a rubber face. He was brilliant but never crude. I have often wondered why he suddenly disappeared from the scene because he was actually very funny. His Eamonn Andrews, Jacques Cousteau , Hans and Lotte Has sketch had me in stitches.

Manning at the Embassy Club.
We used to go for our annual lads Christmas do there. Always had a cracking booze fuelled night out. Is he still alive? Last time I saw him was well over 15 years ago and he looked fucked then as it was.
