The BEN wrote an article about whether we should have got rid of him: http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/wanderers/wanderersnews/9332986.Wanderers_have_lost_their_way_since_Elmander_said_farewell/I think they may have a point. He was moved into midfield (tactical genius that Coyle is) when Sturridge arrived. We still played quite well though, because Sturridge could score a goal or two. But in the FA cup semi, with Stu out, Elmander played in central midfield with Muamba (fcuking hell!) and we all know what happened that day. Now that him and Studge have gone, I think we all agree we are struggling a little bit. SKD has lost the S and is now just KD, and this may be partly down to not having somebody who he can knock the ball onto, and some one who can also knock it back to him. I may get some stick for this, but I think Elmander was massively underrated, and without him, we aren't doing as well. Yes, we are also missing Stu and Ping-Pong, but their replacements aren't as good as them. Elmander might not have scored as many goals as he should have, but he put in some effort and that is what we are currently lacking.

We didn't get rid of him though. His contract was up and he got offered more money than we could offer him from the Leeds murderers.

The fact we were better when he was in the team was purely a coincidence. It amazes me that after 3 seasons of pitiful return people still see him as some sort of talisman.

The local paper has to be the worst paper in the world, I am convinced they just give crayons to about 50 children and see what they come up with.
As Dave said he was out of contract and left.

If they made the same article regarding Sturridge then fair enough because without him in the side last season we were fcuking terrible.
But to say all that about elmander is just clutching at straws.

I said this a week or more ago...
"I think he is a decent player compared to what else we have at Bolton but he is no Danny Sturridge. Maybe we weren't expecting him to be that good.
But. He is also no Johan Elmander. Elmander had about 6 goals by this point last season and in my opinion he showed a lot of ability and promise. His passing was good. He was committed, great work rate, tackled back a lot, held the ball up well - yet he still had a lot of fans on his back for not giving enough to the team. Ngog has not done much really other than show the odd promising glimpse. But in reality he is doing very little. I think if Ngog was playing the way Elmander was last year we would all be singing his praises like mad now.
Will Ngog come Ngood? Do we miss Elmander? (Remember, even when Elmander was moved out of attack and not scoring he was still a big player in over 50% of our goals and was involved in the build up in 7 of Sturridge's goals too.)"
I think the BEN article has a point. A point which it has copied off me. Again.

All well and good saying how many elmander got at the start of last season but we were creating so much more opportunities for our strikers last season and we actually had the ability to keep the ball.
Unlike this season were we just seem to be under so much pressure that we just hoof it up field for who ever is up front.
Trust me elmander would not have got 6 at this point this season with how we are playing.

I must say, I agree with you jayjay. Because he had a shite first two seasons, the fans didn't like him, me included, as he was our record signing and a striker, but he wasn't scoring goals. After the same amount of games in his first season, Elmander had scored the same amount of goals as Ngog has, 1. But he came under more pressure because we had paid a lot more money for him. If Elmander had played in his first season like he did last season, we wouldn't have turned on him, and would, like you said about Ngog, have been singing his praises. Ngog hasn't impressed me, he should be scoring more goals. Granted, he doesn't get very good service, but if he is a decent striker, he should be able to carve out his own chances. In the end, we just need a striker who can pass, run, put some effort in and get a shot on target. At the moment, we don't have one of those.

At Swansea though he was just so painfully isolated. To have any chance he would have to flick the ball on to himself. Elmander wouldn't have been able to do jack squat in that game either. Anyway, it's a moot point. Considering how much money Galatasaray offered Elmander, we had as much chance of re-signing him as we did of signing Wayne Rooney.

I think we would look more positive up top with Elmander and Ngog. That would make us look far more threatening. I wonder if we could get Elmander on loan? Hmm.

Two things Bob: 1) I can't think of any easy chances Ngog has missed so far 2) A striker who carves out his own chances? Messi can do this, that diving fcuker at Liverpool can, Rooney perhaps.....not many others. You are quickly becoming the forum dunce.

Completely agree and my assesment that Bob was a clown was clearly far too generous, we create absolutely fcúk all for him and any slight sniff at goal is usually done by himself. Hopefully we can at least keep up with the rest of the pack until Jan and bring in somebody who is able to do something in midfield other than run around and give away needless free kicks.

Elmander had three seasons with Bolton Wanderers. He played well for about 2 months. Easily the biggest waste of money in our history. Now let sleeping dogs lie.

Elamnder's £800,000 per goal speaks for itself.
