An interesting retrospective. I wonder if Paul Fletcher's sycophancy remains as potent after this seasons start...

I've called Coyle a lot of things, but wouldn't dream of calling him anything as heinous as a 'teetotal Christian'...

What it is about the phrase 'teetotal Christian' that you consider heinous? They are not pejorative adjectives, they are factual.

It's not only adjectives that convey meaning you know, interpretation is rife these days. Possibly they aren't pejorative to you, perhaps to you they convey a disciplined personality who humbly considers his situation within the universe; but to me they betray a dull, puritan lifestyle and attitude that I consider uninspiring and tedious. I doubt the author of this piece mentioned them as statement of fact, but to convey an image. Part of the very carefully airbrushed and focus grouped image Owen Coyle has painted of himself since entering football management. The illusion is more important than the reality for Owen, he reminded me of Tony Blair upon his arrival, post Megson. New Bolton.

Reading this article just serves to show how big a gulf there is between the illusion created by a very media savvy Alastair Campbell disciple, and reality.

Yeah, all that could be true, but to me, he's just saying he's a Christian who doesn't drink.

I just think the blogger admires Owen Coyle and is highlighting that he is hard working and dedicated to his job. It's also a purpose of the piece to inform readers. I respect your interpretation but I think 'heinous' is a very strong way to describe the phrase in question. The blogger isn't George Orwell, he probably interviewed Owen and knocked up the piece in 20-30 minutes.

I used the word 'heinous' as I thought it a commical overreaction, exaggerating my disdain beyond a level that could ever be misinterpreted a serious, appropriate response.

That's not been knocked up in 20 minutes, it's got about 40 links to sources and has a carefully crafted narrative that takes the reader on a journey from Fawning Backslapping down the spine of Underserved Adulation to the bay of Penetrative Brownnosing. More likely is it's a blogger desperate for a second interview, auctioning his journalistic integrity for a replay.

Doesn't reading it make you long for Old Bolton, unliked perhaps- but a club with it's own identity and style and motives, and more importantly without the shallow gleem of spin?

If that's an article designed to inform I'd love to see him in 'persuade' mode, I used the word heinous

Ok I'll have a nibble, Coyle is clueless, inept tactically, and to top it all off has a backroom staff that is equally clueless, add all that up, and all you see is relegtion, Coyle and his army needs fcuking off, and rapid.
