He played alright last night. He's one of the few players we have who offers some creativity going forward. I think he has to start some more games for us now. What does everyone think?

Useless. He looks the part but when it comes down to actually creating something he usually falls short. Have we ever won a game Mark Davies started?

He's the best creative midfielder we have though imo.

What would you do? Stick with Pratley and Reo Coker?

He's the only creative midfielder we have. I wouldn't risk him in a four man midfield, but I would like to see Mavies play in the centre of a five man midfield with Ngog upfront.

Blackburn at home last year. Although he was sent off with the score still 0-0.

That is what I'm calling for.

I agree but it can't happen (successfully anyway) unless Coyle moves away from attacking on both flanks with wingers.

You need two defensive mids so you would be left with Petrov and Eagles out wide and Mavies alone and completely isolated in midfield.

We need support for him in midfield - someone willing to run from box to box all game (like Holden).  I'm guessing Pratley was bought for that role as Holden's understudy?

Can't see Coyle changing the only plan he's got - can you - so expect to see Petrov in front of Robinson again, Eagles shooting from 80 yards and poor old Kevin Davies up front in his unlikely partnership with Ngog.

Hope I'm wrong though.

A midfield of ...

Eagles   Reo Coker  M.Davies  Muamba  Kakuta(I hate Petrov at the moment)

Would it work?

Presuming Coyle is going to stick with Robinson at left back I'd play Gardner wide left. Not because he's any good but he does offer something going forward and has the pace to get back and help out Robinson.

I'm hoping Ricardo is left back. If he's not I'd play him left wing.

Gardner can't defend though. No point in replacing Robinson with him.

Mark needs a lot of support; he isn't great in the tackle so he need people around him doing that job.

I reckon he'd play well just behind a front in that space between midfield and up top.

as long as there was lots of support behind him.

Robinson can't defend this season for some reason.

Haha, yeah he's having a tough time out there. Unfortunately though, we're hardly blessed in the full backs department!

Shame Alonso did what he did. Otherwise, I'm sure he'd have got some games this season, Dave.

Gardner is alright at defending but he shanks more passes than any player i've ever seen.

so he makes a tackle and shanks it back to them? What good is that?

Alonso broke his foot; he'd be getting games if it wasn't for that.

Alonso not only did what he did but he also broke his foot.

So I doubt he'd have played much. Although I think he's due back from injury soon so we may see him in the team.

He can defend better than Robinson...just. But he has more pace so is less susceptible to being skinned by the winger.

Swansea have fast wingers. If Robinson does start on Saturday whoever plays left wing for us had better be prepared to get back and help him.

In other words not Petrov.

If they are as quick as blackpool were last season at the reebok they will run rings around us all afternoon with there pace up front.

Robinson is in for the longest afternoon of the season if petrov is playing.

Blackburn we all know what happened to him in that game.

I will re-post my team from the other day that got took the piss out of. I didn't see last night's game but this is how I think we should line up:

Mine would be:

                               Boggers or Jussi

         Boyata          Cahill            Bix             Gardener

Muamba     Reo-Coker (both sitting and protecting)

Tuncay or Eagles          Mavies (free role)        Petrov or Kakuta

                                           Eggnog

I think this system would certainly provide better cover for the defence and by freeing up the wingers to go and attack without worry of having to track back (Petrov), I think we would be a more potent attacking force. I would like to see Mark Davies given a completely free role and to link up the play with Ngog.

We know Mark Davies has ability, there has to be a system that can get the best out of him. 442 definately doesn't, in fact now I think of it, 442 doesn't seem to suit any of our players.

I only caught the after match discussion on Sky, but when the guy covering our game was asked if any Bolton player had played himself into contention for selection Sat, he picked out Davies.

Maybe but maybe not.

I would prefer...

Muamba
Eagles Mavies Pratley Tuncay
Ngog

which, during attacking periods, can convert to...

Muamba
Eagles Mavies Pratley
Ngog Tuncay

NRC is not the bees knees unfortunately. Muamba does a better job. Pratley was our best player last night and should stay in. Tuncay can play wide and up top. Mavies is our creator. Eagles is playing ok. Kakuta is pants at the moment.

His debut vs. Tottenham, right?
