I'm looking at opening a new account with a seperate savings account with a view to getting a mortgage further down the line.

Any recommendations?

Don't even mention Lloyds TSB as I hate them with a passion.

Lloyds TSB have obviously done something to upset you so I might open an account as a thank you to them.

I had an account with them for over 30 years and they are utter dogwank.

I hate them. I hope they fold.

If a mortgage is the real reason for opening a new account then perhaps you might be better joining a building society - perhaps the Nationwide?

That was one of the one's on my shortlist.

Not sure if there is a massive amount of difference between banks and building societies these days, their products are very similar.

If you get about 20% of the house price saved up you'll have banks falling over themselves to give you a mortgage.

Whatever you do, keep walking past Santander. Absolutely useless bank.

All the banks pretty much piss into the same pot.

They're all about as bad as each other.

Anyone bank with the Post Office? I'm thinking of giving them a whirl but have never actually met anyone with an account with them.

They do good offers on mortgages, just not sure if they were a decent 'bank'.

You ask your bank for your statements for the last, say, 5 years. It costs you a tenner for that. Then you go through any charges and mark them in a highlighter. Send it off with a covering letter tellnig them they've robbed you and so you think they owe you £x amount. They write back and say in no way are they liable but as a gesture of good will they'll offer you £x amount. You say, ta, and they send you a cheque. I did it about 5 years ago so it may've changed.

Quite a few were incorrect and I'd not even noticed. Plus they charged me for having things on an account I didn't even want.
I chanced my arm, they paid out. Suckers!
As I said, it was quite a few years ago prior to them arguing the toss over it.

They probably get away with charging people for things they don't need and charges they haven't incurred all the time.Good to see someone have the banks over for a change.

I may have a scan through my old statements, think you can go back a few years on on-line banking.
