Four medals won by Irish football legend Tony Dunne have been bought at auction by his former club Manchester United.
The medals, - a European Cup medal, an FA Cup medal and two league medals - plus other Dunne mementoes, went under the hammer for a total of around £44,000
Two shirts worn by the Reds defender during the 1963 FA Cup Final and the 1968 European Cup final failed to reach the reserve price.
Dunne, now aged 70, was Irish Footballer of the Year in 1969 and won 33 caps playing for the Republic between 1962 and 1975.
Munich disaster
After helping Dublin club Shelbourne to an FAI Cup final victory in 1960, he signed for the Manchester giants for a transfer fee of £5,000.
He was brought to Old Trafford as part Matt Busby's rebuilding of the team following the 1958 Munich air disaster in which eight players were killed. His team-mates included soccer legends such as George Best and Johnny Giles.
Regarded as one of the club's best-ever defenders, Mr Dunne went on to play for United in 535 games, the seventh highest number of appearances behind an impressive list that includes Ryan Giggs and Bobby Charlton.
During his career, he helped the club win the 1963 FA Cup, the 1965 and 1967 English Football League First Division championships and the 1968 European Cup.
