In my late teens I took up darts and used to play three nights a week. After getting married and settling down to raise a family my evening jaunts were severely curtailed. Other than football I needed a hobby that would keep me at home so I chose Pigeon racing.

I was always fascinated as to how a tiny creature weighing fourteen ounces could navigate its way home over hundreds of miles from a place that it had never been to before. I raced pigeons for nine years and thoroughly enjoyed it even though it was like having a second full time job.

Anyone else got any unusual hobbies ?

I play the trombone, it's not really unusual, but not many people play the instrument any more.

A schoolmate of mine used to play the trombone. He used to have lessons every week. It was bloody hard work. He hated it but his dad made him do it and his other brother played the Clarinet.

I've always been fascinated with history.

Many years ago I used to be quite captivated by learning about Heraldry.

It got to the point were I used to write off to various towns and city's asking them for a copy of their Coat of Arms - many gladly sent me them too!

It got me into trying to learn a bit of Latin - because most of their motto's where in that language and that in turn got me interested in how the English language originated, as quite a big bit of it has its roots in Latin.

Now I spend my days on an internet footy forum?

Tempus fugit I guess!

I never did Latin at school. Too much like hard work. My favourite Latin phrase is ' Ne te confundant illegitimi.'

But what does it mean?

Neither did I.

I simply bought a cheap book on it from W H Smith's and tried to get a sort of understanding of how - when you see a Latin word - the English word suddenly makes sense.

For instance the word for 'water' in Latin is 'Aqua'.

So you start to understand why we keep fish in an AQUArium, or the star sign of the water carrier is AQUArius, etc.

Or 'Dexter' is the Latin word for 'right' - most people are right handed - so a person who can use both hands equally as well are known as an ambiDEXTER (or someone with two right hands!).

I know - I need to get out a lot more!

Is collecting rap CDs from the late 80's and early 90's considered unusual for a girl?

I also collect Tiger comics and Beano annuals.

I spend hours on the internet trying to find these gems.

A guy I used to work with is a "groundhopper" who spends all his time travelling around the country watching non league football.  At the last count he had over 35000 programmes.
