I was thinking about some of the things that piss me off about Coyle lately.  The dogmatic adherence to 4-4-2, the over-the-top positivity and failure to find faults in interviews, sticking by players who aren't playing well.  And I have come to the conclusion that this is all calculated towards spreading one message: "I am not Gary Megson."

Gary Megson played boring 4-5-1 football with a holding midfielder, so Coyle plays 4-4-2.

Gary Megson called out players in interviews, so Coyle backs them (to a fault).

Gary Megson bitched and moaned any time a camera was in his face, so Coyle smiles and finds positives every time he's on camera.

In essence, Coyle knows that he owes his job at BWFC to the fact that most people hated Megson, so in order to keep his job he has decided to be the anti-Megson in all ways possible.  This, I think, will continue until we're so deeply in the shíte that he has no choice but to change.

And you can't really blame him.  I'm sure one of the major reasons he was appointed was that Megson had zero connection with the fans or with Bolton Wanderers as an institution ("this place" etc.) and so Gartside wanted to get someone who really did have a connection with the club.

H. Pedersen - I have read some bloody boring and pointless posts in my time but this one of yours really takes the biscuit.

I can take defeat if the manager comes out and says "we were shite" because you know he's going to work on it during the week. Wolves got beat yesterday by QPR and Mick McCarthy claimed Wolves were awful and the players let the fans down. It's what you want to hear. You want to know the manager is hurting like you are.

But when Coyle comes out with positives after a 5-0 thrashing by United and a home defeat to a team that last won away in the Premiership over 10 years ago you have to wonder if he actually cares at all.

I like McCarthy. If nothing but his honesty.

Coyle is hooked on 1995 football.
We all should be. But it doesn't work like that and he needs to update.

I have just been onto a burnley message boards for an opinion on what he was like when things were not going right and if he ever changed formation, I found some interesting things out: -

Here is one fans view: -

Judas is a man motivator and works with his systems and supported by his followers who are his shadows.

He got the burnley players to believe in themselves after a poor start and he turned it round with some great football.

He did make mistakes in our promotion year playing Jordan as left back when kalvenes was far better also our best formation was with Grezza controlling the play just ahead of the back 4, yet if any of the back 4 git injured Grezza moved back and our effectiveness decreased.

Judas is Tactically inept. He plays one way and one way only there is never a plan b. We played exactly the same home and away and he rarely changed starting personnel.

In the premier league we played an attacking formation yet would get zonked week in week out conceding 2,3,4 and 5 in our first 4 away matches.

His signings also in the main were awful around 8 or 9 of our our promotion winning side weren't signed by the guy, but he got them to perform and win matches

Possibly. But the times I go out, I don't pay for the company I keep.
