If you had a regular hygiene routine you wouldn't be in this situation.

Dirty bugger.

As my doctor explained, I have been cutting them to short & going all the way round the nail.
Apparently your only supposed to cut across the top.
Anyway after 3 month's trying to do them my self, it as got to the stage that they have cut into my skin quite abit.
I've been cutting them the same way for over 40yrs, Baffles me.

Magoo. Here is a tip for you. Get a washing up bowl and fill it with boiling hot water. Add one squeezed lemon, a good sprinkle of vinegar and half a tea cup of salt. Wait till the water is bearable for you to put your feet in and then sit and watch TV for a couple of hours while your feet are soaking. When you remove your feet you will notice that the skin has shrivelled up quite substantially. Dry your feet and you will be easily able to get to the ingrowing toenails in your big toes.
This method will negate the need to remove your toenails completely.

Magoo I had the same problem a couple of years ago with both my big toes. I went to a podiatrist who told me that in most cases its due to the way you cut the nails but in my case my nails were curling in right from the nail bed so it wouldnt make a difference how I cut them. I ended up having a small strip of nail cut off both nails right down to the nail bed. It wasnt pleasant at all and I wasnt able to wear anything other than flipflops due to a massive bandage on both toes. It was bloody agony to walk too. I was lucky that this worked for me as she told me if it didnt work then the next step was to cut away that part of the nail but to also permanently damage the nail bed so that it wouldnt grow back. If you can, get them both treated at the same time so its all over and done with but just make sure you wont need to wear shoes for a week or so afterwards. Stock up on the painkillers too and good luck.

You probably will be, they numb the part of the nail that is to be cut, its afterwards that the throbbing starts. In saying all that though Im not good with pain at all.

Well I have put up with the pain for a while now, And also tried to sort it out myself.
So roll on the chopping, it's getting on my nerves, Especially when you forget and kick the football.
Now that brings tear's to your eyes.

Magoo, have you had your nadgers neutered yet ? I had mine done a few years ago and can tell you an interesting story but I don't want you to be put off if you have not had them done.

You must have balls of steel! I went to work the next day although my plums were still quite bruised. An Asian doctor performed my op. I just had a local. He informed me that after the op there would be a bit of pain and some swelling. I told him to give me something for the pain but leave the swelling.

The worst part for me was having the needle through the nadgers.

That was the only thing I felt, I also had a local, I was having a laugh with the surgeon and nurses all the way through the operation.

I wish I had taken my headphones and listened to some music. I could see everything through the reflection of the operating theatre lights. I am glad I had it done though because it has saved me a fortune in Prophylactics.

A mate of mine had a bad experience with a Spanish doctor who had come over here for training. The nurse told him that he was the new doctors very first patient. Anyway Doctor Paella ended up injecting too much novocaine into the first  nut and not enough in the second. When he went to make an incision in the second nut my mate leapt up in agony and the Doc nicked a blood vessel which sent out a stream of blood all over the nurse's white apron.

The upshot was that he could only have one nut done that day as he couldn't be given any more novocaine. The nurse went to get the next client who keeled over and fainted at the sight of her bloody apron and she had to phone her husband to bring her another apron from home.

To top and tail it my mate got an infection in his plums and was on antibiotics for a week. He wasn't too impressed because I told him the op was a piece of cake.

They no longer need to make 2 incisions
The Novocain hurt much worse than the "operation"
