I am just interested what people think will happen in terms of unemployment figures for the next 10, 20, 30, 40 years, etc.
It just seems to me that as technology gets more and more advanced, jobs are made redundant. And with people having to work longer and a growing population, what is the future for the jobs market?

Bleak, I'd say. 3,000,000 unemployed. I can see that rising.

I think the good times are over - China and India will be the worlds big economic powers and America and Europe will become less important - and thus relatively poorer.

Unemployment will inevitably rise and some tough political decisions will have to be taken over the Welfare State (Benefits, the National Health Service, etc) because we simply can't afford them.  Perhaps even someone will grasp the nettle about immigration (but I think that is too late already in my opinion and we have already moved beyond the tipping point.

I can foresee plenty of strikes ahead and even probably civil disobedience (more riots!).

Happy little soul aren't I - but in simple terms you can't keep taking out of the pot without putting something back - and far too many people now care only about themselves.

Yes, I've heard of it. Heard quite a few of these actually.

One person, he added each of the chapter numbers of the Old And New testaments and then he used that, to match our days and came to the conclusion that the earth would end on the basis of what the total number in the bible was.

World war II started for similar reasons
Mother nature always has a way of population control
But yes it will get much worse before it gets better

I don't, no. If what he said was true, I'm sure there would have been further, well, hints if you like recorded in the passages.

Simply saying, the world will end because each Evangelist adds up to "x" number. No real basis there, I don't think.

Can't say I agree with that. Manufacturing is slowly moving back to Europe & as we all know, call centre's are coming back from India too (presumably due to consumer dissatisfaction. 20 years from now we'll be self suffivient again. I say hopefully, but am confident it's coming back.

Trust me on this one. We'll pull out and they'll be fúcked, it's already started. Even as an importer I'll be a happy girl personally as they are a very difficult nation to deal with at times.

Like I have said before...

Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the
money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 10 million people over 50 in the work force.

Pay them £1 million each severance for early retirement with the
following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire.
Ten million job openings - unemployment fixed

2) They MUST buy a new British car.
Ten million cars ordered - Car Industry fixed

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage -
Housing Crisis fixed

4) They MUST send their kids to school/college/university -
Crime rate fixed

5) They MUST buy £100 WORTH of alcohol/tobacco a week .....
And there's your money back in duty/tax etc

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back
their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know.

Also.....
Let's put the pensioners in jail and the criminals in a nursing home.

This way the pensioners would have access to showers, hobbies and walks.

They'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental and medical
treatment, wheel chairs etc and they'd receive money instead of paying
it out.

They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be helped
instantly, if they fell, or needed assistance.

Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be ironed
and returned to them.

A guard would check on them every 20 minutes and bring their meals and
snacks to their cell.

They would have family visits in a suite built for that purpose.

They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual
counselling, pool and education.

Simple clothing, shoes, slippers, PJ's and legal aid would be free, on request.

Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor yard, with gardens.

Each senior could have a PC a TV radio and daily phone calls.

There would be a board of directors to hear complaints, and the guards
would have a code of conduct that would be strictly adhered to.

The criminals would get cold food, be left all alone and unsupervised.
Lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week.  Live in a tiny room and
pay £600.00 per week and have no hope of ever getting out.

Think about this (more points of contention):

COWS
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad
cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Appleby
almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the
county of Cumbria?

And, they even tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable
to locate 125,000 illegal immigrants wandering around our country.
Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

Also; Think about this ... If you don't want to forward this for fear
of offending someone -- YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!

I think the outlook is pretty grim tbh.

They say that youth is wasted on the young, but they are very much welcome to it right now. Employment and housing prospects for those just starting out on the employment ladder are bleaker than they have ever been in living memory.

Somewhere along the lines we began to think that everyone should be educated to higher education level thus giving an unrealistic expectation of employment opportunities. It is now almost frowned upon  to start your working life in a 'normal' job such as retail or catering. This country should really retrieve itself from up it's own bumhole if it is to have any kind of future.
