Go Amos!
3 degree courses at once.

Unheard of outside the realms of genius.

Is it?  I think you'd better look at the prospectusses, then!

The teaching degree was the main subject and from there one has to choose two, yes two, sub-fields from a choice of about 20 (well it was 20 when I was there).  These sub-fierlds were then part related to the tecahing degree but would come away with 3 separate, but linked degrees.  One could easily drop the teaching, if they ever wanted - which I did and explained why further up, but then still carry opn with the other 2 .

My timetable was as follows (in general - per semester)

Monday 830 to 530 (with a break for lunch between 12 and 130) - Teacher Training
Tuesday 9 to 11 History
              12 to 330 Envirionmental Sciences
4 to 530 meeting with history Tutor
Wednesday 9 to 1230 Environmetal Sciences
1 to 230  meeting with Teachiner Training Tutor
Thursday 9 to 11 History
                12 to 330 Environmental Sciences
4 to 530 meeting with Environmental Sciences Tutor
Friday 9 to 11 History
          1230 to 530 Teaching Training

Then of course there wer Teaching Practices, in schools....
1st year was 4 weeks
2nd year was 8 weeks
3rd year was 16 weeks
4th year was 2 terms (although as I said I did not do a 4th year)

Amos, I think that is the saddest post ever.

You're wasting your life.

I thought he came over here to get engaged? He was in Manchester last night. I saw him coming out of the late night chemist clutching a tube of anusol.

My wee lad went back to school on the 1st Sept. In N Ireland the school holidays start at the end of June and finish at the beginning of Sept, they get 8weeks!! He is off tomorrow because the school is closed due to teacher training. I know that the length of holidays hasnt changed since I was at school but the amount of teacher training days seem to have increased by a ridiculous amount over the last 25years.

Just a thought, but why don't they have training days during the 8 weeks?

You would think they would.

I agree that teachers do have a lot of shíte to deal with, they dont have as much authority now as they used to, there are a lot of parents think their kids can do no wrong and the teachers are on the receiving end of that. I have a couple of friends in 'real life' who are teachers and some of the stories they tell are horrific. I know of one who actually thought that one parent was going to hit them. Another friend is a vice principle and had the chance to take up a permanent principle job and refused it. She says the red tape is awful. I know that a teachers day starts before the kids enter the classroom and dosnt end when the kids go home but Im still not sure I agree with the amount of time off they have.

I know that tomorrow even though my son has the day off, all the teachers will be in school doing what ever it is that they do for teacher training, but there are now so many of these 'training' days that it wouldnt surprise me if the children's education are suffering for it.

Edit: Ive just decided I like the teacher training days though as it means I get a lie in. Ive totally changed my view, we should have more training days so that parents can get their beauty sleep  Cool

My eldest lad didn't start back until Thursday 8th September. Apparently the school was closed for a full day for regular pupils so they could have an induction day for new pupils.

Our schools would do that too, stagger them coming back over a couple of days.
