I should think he is considering his contract is up in the summer.
Did anyone think we wouldn't offer him a new contract?

I tend to think we wouldn't have turned down the bid from Spurs unless we thought Cahill would sign another deal.

Its bloody madness if they have'nt at least sounded him out about signing a new deal before they turn down offers. I fully expect him to sign a 12month extension

Will He bollox sign a new contract, he can pick his club, get a massive signing on fee,and double his wages who in their right mind would sign a new contract at Bolton, then have to wait for someone to pay 15-20 mill then top wages and have no choice of club just go to highest bidder, never going to happen.

You clearly have no idea how football works these days. Firstly, if he gets seriously injured between now and July he would have no income once his BWFC contract runs out. That scares a lot of footballers. Secondly, and as I've said elsewhere, signing a contract now will not put off any of the big boys further down the line. He'll get a signing on fee from Bolton, and then again when he moves. Win-win for Cahill. He'd be foolish not to sign a contract.

Why am I wrong? Everything BF said in his post, Cahill can do after signing a new contract with BWFC.
Bet me Cahill signs a new contract. Any amount you like.

You won't pay, we had a bet last time and I let you off because I knew you would not pay and I could not be arsed asking you every 5 minutes for it.

As much as I want to jump in here and side with you over Big and Burnden, I can't, I don't think there is a hope in hell of Cahill signing a new deal. I think anyone who thinks we will is crazy and should be in an institute.

I think he will sign a new deal for another year but will join Chelsea next summer.
Either that or he will join them in January, the pairing of him and JT in the england defence in the past 2 games tells me that Cahill was put along side Terry for a reason.

He will sign, he's hardly going to ask for my mole's advice and then ignore it.

Depends what the contract offered says. The only thing that would compel GC to sign (apart from silly amounts of dosh and a side contract to foreshorten Phil Jones' international career) would be the opportunity to do something in return for the club that put him in the limelight. It's called gratitude and it's a fairly common phenomenon amongst humans. I'm sure GC was more than aware of the feelings generated when Elmander walked away with zero sell-on value and it may be that a contract that would guarantee a return for BWFC without jeopardising a move to a richer club would be something GC and his agent would consider.

Cahill has never struck me as being a cúnt. He should recognize that our paying 5 mil for a young bench-warmer and starting him straight away was a tremendous platform that to be fair to him, he has grabbed with both arms and a leg. He has managed to become an England squad regular despite playing for Bolton (as well as the most selected defender in fantasy football). I really doubt there would not have been a conversation with GC as to what his intentions were as it relates to the teams that had come in for him. Our keeping him suggests that an agreement that suits all parties is in the offing.

Not an expert on fantasy football, but I hear it's all about selecting players that are value for money and working within a limited budget. If that's the case, GC being selected most is a bit of a worry as he's therefore seen to be a bargain. I get concerned that everybody recognises he's top talent, but because he plays for us, rich clubs can walk in, flash their trophies and pick him up for a song. The highlight of the transfer window for me was PG telling 'Arry where to get off and TBF the cheeky fecker needed telling. A lot of fans thought it was a suicidal move, given that GC's contract is just about up - and it may yet turn out to be a bad move - but I love the fact that PG didn't buckle under the pressure to sell. Even sections of the media are saying GC needs to move to a CL club to cement his England place. Bollocks to that - if he plays well enough, they'd be stupid not to select him. I'm hoping that this is the start of BWFC taking a stand against the media and the richer clubs and giving them a clear message that we're no pushover on price, we're not a selling club and that we're trying to build something here - although that might be more bravado than brains given our reported financial position. GC signing a new contract would be a great boost whether he moves on or not.

Ha ha, you make it sound like we have a squad full of players that could play in the Champions League. I suspect once Cahill has gone it'll be a long time before we sell anyone to a top club again. Unless Barcelona fancy Muamba & Knight.

I've heard they are ready to offer Messi as bait to lure them 2 to the Nou Camp ITK. I hope Gartside stands firm and offers them both a new deal!

I know you can be a pedantic tw@t from time to time (not all the time, thankfully) so I'm convinced you know what I'm talking about. If we're ever going to build we have to try to hang on to good players and if they must go, we need to try to get top dollar for them. I'm just suggesting (in a rather paranoid way) that there is a perception promulgated by the media that if we're selling, we're selling cheap and that nobody should be expected to pay full whack for a Bolton player. Just look at some of the cr@p that's commanded big transfer fees from other clubs. I mean £35 million for Andy Carroll FFS. We used to be able to do it. Sasa Curcic for example.

True. City paid over 20 million for Lescott. Way over the odds.

Lescott is OK and was playing well when he was transferred from Everton, but not £20 mill OK, especially at a time when City hadn't got quite the same amount of cash to splash. There's a lot of it about but somehow we seldom end up with a good price for our players these days. Anelka looked a snip at £15 mill and even though we made a healthy profit of £6 mill on that one, I'd rather have had him in the team these last few years than have the £6 mill. The last time we made a transfer "killing" was Gawd knows when. Maybe I am being paranoid, but it is increasingly looking like a media conspiracy to put "unfashionable Bolton" out of business.

John McGinlay? Didn't Bradford pay a bundle for him even though he was well past it?

I think we signed him for £300k, had several brilliant years, and flogged him for £600k. You can't beat that.
