Yakubu was a deadline day signing for Blackburn Rovers on 31st August, 2011. Earlier in the transfer window a deal had looked likely, however broke down due to the two parties failing to agree to personal terms. However, after a last minute plea to his chairman Rovers manager Keene was able to offer the Nigerian striker the McDonalds gift card and shorts with adjustable waistline that had previously proved the stumbling block. Sources close to Yakubu said that he felt that he had eaten all the food at Finch Farm and was looking forward to the new challenges posed to him by the canteen staff at Ewood Park.
