Anyone into it?

Started off a few years ago, building a tidy sum if I do say so.

Had daft odds on an Arsenal/Swansea double this weekend - let me down.

I am rubbish, I have not won owt since Newcastle was in the Championship but had a very near miss last season when all I needed was derby to score and it would have got me £140 quid but they was crap all game and couldnt hit a barn door, I was not amused.

Does anybody have any tips, I take it that betting bigger on a few teams is better than betting £5 on about 7 or 8.

You're not the only one.

Got a few bets on tonight, like having a dabble with the over/under market for number of cards and corners.

Not necessarily, you just need to bet on the 'right' teams to make the accumulator work. Bit pointless just including betting, for example, on Chelsea to beat WBA because the return will be minimal.

I bet on Liverpool to beat Arsenal at half time on Saturday and banged the winnings on Chelsea. What a fúck up that almost was.

Accumulators are the bookies pension fund, trust me. I can prove this mathematically, but I'd bore you all more than I usually do.

The only way to make money on these is by playing the percentage game: looking for the value bet.

Started betting on 4 games at a weekend and predict the correct outcome.

Had bury, blackpool and St.mirren win at the weekend with QPR to draw but the fcuking toffees lost and bloody brighton got a point off the pool.

All types of accumulator: yes. Do you really want me to tell you why?

A value bet is where the odds on offer are higher than your perception of it actually happening.
OR finding a bet you like and modifying it to create a bigger profit.

For example, some of you filthy bastards might want to back the scum tonight v Spurs.
They are available at around 4/7 (1.57) which isn't particularly good.
However, there's a bit more value in backing them at 11/10 (2.1) to be winning at half-time.

When you are betting say £20 quid though is it really worth the risk?

Football betting is shíte! Don't get me wrong I have loved betting on football but IMO it just does not pay simply because football is so unbelievably unpredictable. I mean this weekend Celtic 0-1 St Johnstone - that should be the biggest banker in Europe this weekend but they lost. You look around Europe and see crazy results all the time, Bayern Munich lost at home to Monchengladbach last week, in the Carling Cup Portsmouth lost at home to Barnet, Barnsley lost at home to Morecambe, Derby lost to Shrewsbury at home, Ipswich lost at home to Northampton, etc.
Every game is a lottery and any result can happen. If the biggest bankers cannot be relied on to come in then how can you expect harder games to come up?

Spot on and that's one reason why the bookies love you to do accumulators.

I used to like a dabble on the football but soon realised how god awful I was at it. However, I did earn a few bob in about 2004-2005 by putting money on 2-1 scorelines. For some reason it was every other game.

I still sometimes have a little flutter if I'm going to the match, but it's still a mugs game.

Further proof on how difficult it can be predicting football results etc can be seen by the failure of so-called "experts"

One of the websites I run is football-based and we test out some of the various commercially marketed systems that are supposedly the latest cash cows!

We started one last week and it's already lost over 26pts.

Interesting.

I am enjoying the in-play markets at the moment. Doing well for the most time, but last night in a fit of madness I stuck my entire winnings from the United game on Jordan vs UAE (or someone similar) which was 3-2 with three left - I backed the draw and what do you know.....3-3

Phew

The biggest news of football  is that,  Wales captain Sam Warburton was given a three-week ban on Sunday following his red card for a "dangerous tip tackle" in the World Cup semi-final defeat by France.

What are you on about? That's rugby union and has nothing to do with football betting.

I may be wrong, but I think that may have been an attempt at a joke. If so, it didn't go particularly well.

A few thoughts on this...

Do in play betting. Wait for one of your big clubs to  concede an early goal. Eg, Man Utd go behind against Swansea or Norwich. Then the odds on a Man U win will shoot up in your favour. Now place your bet. The chances are still high that Utd will turn it around.

If you are patient you could do this over the season...
Put £2.00 on Utd to lose on day one. Say the odds are 6/1. If you win you get £14.00 back. Lose and you have lost £2.00.
But keep going. Next game put £2.00 on Utd to lose. Say the odds are 9/2. You win. You get back £11.00. So in total you are up including your loss on the first game. If you lose though you are now £4.00 down.
Game 3 stick £5.00 on United to lose at 8/1. If you win, get back £45.00. Minus your stake and minus your previous losses you are still £36 up over all.
There are slightly better ways if you can do the math. Just make sure that after each loss your nxt bet covers your losses and gives you a profit.

It works a bit like the double your bet on the casino red or black thing - except from the odds are better than 1/1. You just have to hope that your team do eventually lose against someone rubbish. And you have to be patient and make sure you dont miss any and do lots of sums.
